    Default Luan Plywood for Cedar

I am planning on turning an old bookcase I have into a humidor wine rack combo however I am finding it difficult to find a good price on Spanish Cedar. I have seen people use luan plywood for their walk-in humidors and was wondering if since it is a type of mahogony as well if it would work for the liner of my cabinet project as a more cost effective spanish cedar alternative. Any ideas?

I would say yes, since it has the same hygroscopic properties as spanish cedar.

I agree. But I would still suggest using some small pieces of cedar for dividers, etc. Some cigar boxes are made entirely of cedar and most at least have cedar separator sheets or fillers. So it should be easy to acquire some at your local humidor for free or cheap.
Not only does cedar infuse a flavor, it is also a natural insect repellant. That should keep moths and silverfish out.

If you do use spanish cedar, be sure to wear a mask when cutting and sanding. The dust is toxic.

Sweet thanks guys, I had figured as much but I just needed that reassurance you know. Probably going to get some this week and start the renovation.

    Never knew that

Although most micro dust is really bad for your lungs...
