It is a long standing tradition to give cigars to a new Father/Mother upon the birth of a Child. I still do this from time to time and I was wondering if I am the only antiquated person who still does this?

As a matter of fact, I'm doing that right now! My baby will be born any day now. I have a box of big mild smokes with custom labels to hand out!![]()
I have chocolate ones for the ladies and non-smokers.

The only thing missing from my life is money and more Cigars.
if i have another child, i'll be giving out cigars. but right now we are stopping at one. i didn't give out any then because i hadn't started smoking yet (and i had no money)

Considering how many people are offended at the very existence of us smokers, I don't think too many people would appreciate it.
There's only two kinds of cigars, the kind you like and the kind you don't.
Yeah I thought it was the father gave them out. I don't think anybody should be offended, If they dont smoke it's still a nice souvinierOne of the local shops has 'Its a Girl' and 'Its a Boy' cigars.
Giving the parents of a new-born cigars as gifts?
That's a new one on me. But hey, I'm not Emily Post.
I am familiar with the reverse of the new father giving out cigars, but what in God's name is the mother of a new-born going to do with cigars? Is that what you mean?
That might be OK for the new Dad, but the new Mom will surely feel left out. Plus tobacco and babies is a bad mix. The health thing ya know.
No offense. Just my thoughts.![]()
When my son was born I gave out R&J Bullys to everyone I knew. When my daughter was born I gave out Mayorga Robusto maddies.
I am very big on tradition so I had to do that. Alot of people I gave cigars to are non-smokers or non-cigar smokers and they still thought the gesture was nice. In fact a few of my close non-cigar smoking friends still have both cigars and have no plans of getting rid of them.

Hey everyone I just discovered this site and have been reading all day; there's tons of good information.
Anyway, my boss just had a baby and I'm out of town on a jobsite, but when he comes doen next week I plan on having a cigar with him. He's an avid cigar smoker so I'm sure he'll appreciate it. I know quite a few people who received cigars for the birth of a child, and even the nonsmoking ones appreciated the gesture.
