So guys I smoked one at my local B&M and was really let down. I have read nothing but good stuff on this stick. I sparked one up and sat in a huge leather chair to enjoy. The first third was a great taste and very nice. After that it went down hill. The cigar started to "tunnel". I thought to myself "no big deal sometimes it happens and it will catch its self". No such luck as the cigar started to put itself out. I fired it back up and could barely get a good draw. I mean this cigar was frustrating. I finally put it in the ashtray up on the counter (so the shop attendant could see it). He asked me what was wrong and I stated that the cigar was not what I wanted. I chalked it up to just a bad smoke but the first part of it made me want to try it again. I sat there while my friend puffed away on his Macunado. I guess it was not my day for a smoke. No biggie just wanted to share. The shop attendant did give me a Gurkha from a tin ( a small smoke but a nice gesture ).

Which La Aurora did you smoke? I would try one or two more and maybe you can isolate the incident to a single bad stick. I really enjoy the Preferidos Platinum.

More importantly, why did you let your friend smoke a macanoodle? Cruel!

That sucks, but I'd try another one or 10 too. The preferidos are a little salty though...

The La Aurora was a 1495 series in the Robusto size. I think I will try another. Maybe after a new box gets opened.

My buddy said he liked the "macanoodle". I believe it was the maduro from them. I dont know.

What Rh is the shops humidor kept at? My experience has been that most b/m's I've seen keep the Rh significantly higher than I prefer to smoke. This is common practice since the humidors are opened very frequently with customer traffic, etc......

I would suggest picking up 4 more and letting them rest in your humi for a few days until the acclimate to your preferred Rh range......then see what happens. I've almost never had good luck smoking a stick right from the b/m's humi.

Oh, and BTW, I never say a stick isn't for me until I've tried a 5er.......well, except Acids, I think 5 of any of those would kill me.

That is too bad. The Aurora 1495's are some of my favorites. I second everyone else's opinion - allow your B&M purchases to rest for a bit before smoking them. A B&M I used to frequent kept their stash at like 72% humidity - much too much for my tastes. I had a deal worked out with the guy up front that would let me bring my own in to smoke as long as I bought a few cigars from him in the process. He also preferred that I took the band off if it wasn't a brand he carried. Done deal.

Okay..... I bought another yesterday. Im going to let it settle down in my humidor for awhile and give it a try. I cant wait since the last one gave me a few nice draws with good taste.
