    1. Leave the band on while lighting and 10-15 mins. later discreetly remove the band. Proper ettiquete!

    2. Not sure about the band history...my guess it started as an early form of advertising.
My! What a nice ash you have!

Nice, I didn't catch the "before smoking" part.

Not only do you need to take it off, you need to take it off right away so you can pass out "genuine Habanos" to your freeloading friends who wouldn't know a good cigar from oregano leaves wrapped in brown paper.

They were originally intended as decorations that you could use to adorn a picture frame, humidor, coffee table or bar, or just to save them in a jar. Over the years there have been many stories, but this is the real reason.

    Did I win?

P.S. I'm only kidding around. I have heard several stories, but have no idea which one is right. I in no way intend to minimize your contest. Thanks for doing it..

    1. Should you take the band off a cigar before lighting it? Why or why not? (Personal preference does not count) This should be an easy one.

No, because every time you do, god kills a kitten...think of the kittens!!!!

    2. What is the history of the "cigar band"? Why was it originally introduced?

Well, the Cigar Band started off as a punk band back in the day. When they realized they couldn't make any money off smoking cigars and playing punk music at the same time, they decided to go to METAL!! Since that conversion in '79 they slowly started to gain fame, however, Azmadeus Fuente, lead guitar and founding member, decided that he want to to another project and left the band to raise rabbits and smoke banana's. Without their main song writer, the band decide to write what they knew could sell on the market and in '85 they started to make porn/elevator music. To this day they are the most successful elevator band ever.

    Did I win?

No. The band should be left on upon lighting and until the cigar becomes warm; this loosens the glue on the band from the wrapper. It should be easier to take off at that point as well.

    2. What is the history of the "cigar band"? Why was it originally introduced?
The cigar band was introduced by a man named Gustave Bock, who wanted to label the cigars he exported. The paper ring bearing his signature was intended to be a status symbol for the people who smoked his cigars.

    Default Competition is Over

    Thanks to all for participating.

The origin of this contest was an interview that took place on Sirius Radio Channel 99 (Playboy radio). The hosts were interviewing Aaron Sigmond who is one of the authors of the book "Playboy: The Book of Cigars". The answers to the questions on this contest are solely based on Mr. Sigmond's interview:

    Answer to question 1:
The band should not be taken off because of the risk of tearing the wrapper. You may remove the band as the cigar gets shorter/hotter.

    Answer to question 2:
The original history of the cigar band is that it used to be a simple ribbon. The purpose of this ribbon was to keep the white gloves of "Catherine the Great" from being soiled while she smoked a cigar. This is how the cigar band tradition was started.

Therefore, following the rules of the competition, the person who answered both questions right is the winner. (I did not expect anyone to get the "Catherine the Great" deal). So, Congratulations KEITH!
You win this contest. PM me your addy and I will send your prize asap.

Thanks again to all for playing!

Congrats Keith and thanks for the contest NDV21. As for most people's answers being on the silly side, I attribute that to all of the legitimate ideas already having been taken.

I'm confused, which answers were silly?
