    You think he was quoting someone? Do you think maybe he was using the quotation marks in place of italicizing the text. Is this acceptable?

    Knew it wasn't a quote. I've used quote marks in this way, too, but have always thought the rule about putting punctuation within quotes still applied (even if I've broken it), but perhaps I'm off.

    I didn't see any examples, following your link, that would have clarified it for me.

    It's probably because I see repeated spelling errors just a tad differently than a punctuation error.
