Thread: Tube storage

  1. Default Tube storage

I find that many of the cigars I enjoy come in a tube. I have always keep them in the tube in the humidor until I was ready to smoke it. But, in the back of my mind I have always wondered if that is what is best for the cigar. So, question is; how do you store your tubed cigars?

I don't see a reason to remove them as long as they fit in the humidor.

If it's corked I leave it in. If it's in aluminum I take it out. No real reason, it's just how I roll.

If I lay them East to West in the humi I take the cap off, but, North to South I leave it on.

What to do? What to do! Don't buy cigars in tubos and avoid the frustrating dilemma all together.

But if you happen to turn your humi, do you then put the caps back on?

What if the humidor is displayed at an angle and the tubes lay NW to SE, unscrew the cap half-way?

On a serious note, are tubes, functionally, for anything aside from protecting the cigar in your pocket or whatever when you go out?

Nope. Personally, I just think they're a marketing ploy.

I use them when travelling, or taking one to work. 3/4 to prevent my cigars from getting broken and 1/4 because i think this protects them from the elements a bit...

I am guessing cigar tubes are a marking tool like BW said and a way to protect the cigar when transporting it. But let me ask this is it common to buy a box of cigars in tubes? I trying to think if I ever had a box like that but maybe once anyhow I think it's just a nice way to sell a single and to keep other people from putting thier paws on it in the store. All that being said I leave my cigars in the tube and maybe a few times a year I open the tubes that can be opened and sing them a song just so they don't feel segregated or unwanted.

Yeah, they sell boxes of cigars in tubes. La Aurora Preferidos comes to mind. A long time ago, in a galaxay far away, I know a guy that bought a box of Macanudo Robusto Portfinos and they were all in tubes

Tubes also have that thin liner of cedar

Are there any significant differences between keeping them in or out of tubes when in the humidor? I have to imagine it doesn't matter too much.

What about plastic, or cedar wraps?

    I like cigars
    I like them in tubes
I like them out of tubes...

I don't know where I was going with that but I haven't noticed much of a difference to answer your question. I have stored both ways.

Aren't you supposed to take that thin lining of cedar out and light that, using the flames from the cedar to light the cigar to give the cigar a new blend of flavoring. Well, thats what my old man told me. I noticed it was only slightly true in the beginning of the cigar; and by beginning, I mean the first 30 seconds.
