    Very cool post. Might be worth looking into. I'm a horrible woodworker, but it would be fun.

    Pipe kits are a great way to get a start in pipe making. Try PIMO they have a lot of stuff there. You will need something to shape with i started with an electric drill with a sanding disc and a dremel tool. Remember to keep the stem in the shank while shaping so you get a smooth transition.

    Most of all figure out what works for you. If you do decide to carve your own feel free to ask any question you may have, I'll try to the best of my abilities to answer them. GOOD LUCK.
