What did you think? Alexander Valley used to be my favorite region for wine - they still produce some knockouts, but either my tastes are changing or their quality is slipping, because my rock-steadies aren't so much any more.

CHATEAU DOULEY 2006 PREMIÈRES CÔTES DE BORDEAUX - fabulous. I don't know that I've had a Bordeaux I haven't enjoyed.

Cupcake Red Wine - WHY do I do this to myself? Not bad if you aren't paying attention.

It was a good wine. A little tannic and one-dimensional but it was pleasant. I haven't had too much wine from Alexander Valley but I've also enjoyed Simi and Alexander Valley Vineyards.

Wines like this usually don't show too much variation but I thought the 2007 was a little softer and more fruit-forward which is what I was going for last night. Both went well with gourmet SloppyJoes.

Mount Veeder Winery 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Good wine. Heavy on the tannins. I was completely shocked when we did not finish the bottle. This wine drank well on day 2.

Anybody here tried Australian wine? 2011 Howard Park 'Miamup' Sauvignon Blanc Semillon was a pretty awesome experience. It goes well with goat's cheese, pistachio, or prawns. Cheers!

After dinner earlier this week, went to a small local wine bar. Sat in a nice quiet place just listening to some French Pandora station (you know, one of those stations that doesn't have commercials because no one
listens to it) and thinking about some Burgundy.

2010 vintage. Nice and dry, definitely old world. This wine had a very full, silky mouthfeel.

This has been a mild wine-drinking summer for us. However, we were treated to dinner one evening about 2 months ago where we had a bottle of Far Niente Cabernet. Simply put, it's the best wine I've ever had. I believe it was a 2004 vintage. Pretty label, too.

Cool. That wine has been on my "To Try" list for a while. Definitely a stand-out label.

Really? A Riesling? A riesling from Chateau Ste. Michelle? I find that......surprising. Really?

ETA: We had a bottle of Mark West Pinot Noir 2007. I love this wine. This would be MY house red. At least one of them, anyways.

Quilceda Creek 2008 Red Wine Columbia Valley

A Bordeaux blend of 81% Cab Sav, 13% Merlot, 5% Cab Franc, and 1% Malbec. One helluva entry-level wine. No matter how many shitty bottles of wine I drink just to try to get drunk, wines like this always remind me why I became interested in wine in the first place.

Last night we had a bottle of Le Touzinard Bordeaux. Not bad. Smooth-ish. We ended up drinking the whole bottle (which we rarely do). We took some time off from drinking wine over the last few months, but I'm sure that will pick up with the holidays coming.

Stonehedge Chardonnay

I mean, it was good. I appreciated the butteriness to it, and not so much sweetness. I don't know that I'd run back to the store to buy another bottle of it, though. There are better Chardonnays to be had at this price point (~$10)

Plunderhead Zin - 2007

Recently, these Lodi wines have really been impressing me. I don't know if it's the wine, or I'm not drinking enough of anything lately to notice quality. Really fabulous bottle of wine.
