Thread: Die-Hard Collector

  1. Default

It is the post entitled "Humidor Pictures"

I explain the $40 estimate there.

Oh yeah, I have been collecting cigars since I have been 19 and many of my vintage cigars were bought as vintage cigars.

Well please excuse some of us for wondering because you made this statement in a previous post:
I usually pick a particularly sought after line, buy 3-6 boxes of them, and store them for in excess of 10 years.
I would have been much less confusing if you had said "and PLAN TO store them....." because your original post leads everyone to believe that you've got first hand experience in aging cigars when in fact you do not. You've got to admit, some of your previous statements are certainlly misleading...........

Sorry to you or anyone else if I am being too confusing. That was not my intent at all.

Yes , misleading would be one way to say it.

I have to tell you Island Epi, after reviewing your previous posts, I have to wonder how exaggerated some of your statements may be.....

Sorry for using the words "store" them and not "Intend to store them", I am not exagerating anything man. I have no reason to lie here. I come here to share and gain knowledge and chat cigars with a bunch of knowledgeable people.

When I first replied to this thread a few months ago, I thought it was an interesting topic; a self proclaimed die-hard collector who is interested in discussing choices for long term aging.

I put some thought into it and posted my ideas. And waited...

What I found odd is that you never replied to your own post regarding what your choices would be or offered feedback to the choices I made! Hmmmm...

Looking back at it now, it is apparent that this was simply a "Look at me! Look at me! " post to impress the other members.

I ain't impressed. Fact is, I wonder if you know what the heck you are doing.

Six - eight boxes of the same production code from a single supplier?

How many cuban cigar marcas have you sampled from?,Which vitolas? What are you basing your purchasing decisions on? Money doesn't buy experience.

I see little in your posts regarding collecting cubans, besides Montecristo. You are aware that Montecristos are the most counterfeited cigars in the world correct? Yes, even in Canada.

..and if you have the $$$ invested in this level of cigar collecting , I sure wouldn't be going to my local Mega-Mart in the holiday / seasonal department and buying cheap ass digital hygrometers to watch the environmental conditions of my humidors.

If you do a little checking around, you will find that a "cheap ass" Mega-Mart Hygrometer has tighter tolerances than most cigar store hygrometer's AND they can record/alert on spikes in Humidity and Temp. Just look the next time you are there,,,,,,

Also, I am not getting in any more fights on this forum so I am ending it here. In the next few months I will be going back to my home and I will take DETAILED pictures of my collection to send to you. I hope that will fix any doubt. In the mean time, you can see my pics in the post I just put up. (Please excuse the early generation camera phone.)

Just a hint, considering the trouble you've gotten yourself in here lately, you'd be wise to drop the "look at me" shit for the time being.....

Pictures of your collection or pictures of your father's collection, it doesn't really matter.

The real issue here is that you might want to consider making less of an effort to impress us and more of an effort to supply factual information from your own personal experiences.

This is classic! " I am ending it here. " Why?

Why not offer your line of reasoning for stock piling up to 8 boxes of the same vitola, of the same production code from the same supplier? Is that wise to put that much faith into one cigar of a single production from one vendor?

Have you researched authentication of habanos against counterfeits? What other experience do you have with other cuban cigar brands besides Montecristo? Have you researched quality hygrometers vs. the Mega-Mart variety? Do you salt test your hygrometers quarterly? What is the resale value of buying '92 Montes in 2003 in profitability compared to investing in 2003 Cohiba DC EL in 2003? Shall I continue?

    Default It was the....

pompous, high-brow crap that got me.

My cigar collection rivals that of many cigar shops.
and that was only one comment!

And the damned violins! Holy !!! He HAD to be sure THOSE were in the picture!

Island E, I sincerely hope that you can learn from this. Stop trying to impress people. It's a sure way to make them dislike you. Not because you may have nicer things than others, but because it's a sign of insecurity. Let people like you for yourself (if that's possible) and not for what you possess.

I've got no problem with Island Epi sticking around here, I would just prefer that he stuck to discussing the things he was sincerely knowledgeable about.

Default Does Scotty play the violin???

    er......

I don't have a problem with Island being here either. I just dislike show-offs.

If you got it, that's cool. Just don't flaunt it.
