I'm curious, it sounds like you are using "desktop" style humidors - is that correct?

If I were you and didn't want to buy a large piece of furniture - I'd get a 150+ quart cooler and leave my cigars in their respective boxes inside the cooler. Inside the box you don't have to worry about "cross contamination" - I think the integtrity of the cigars will remain better if stored this way as well as having them in the box keeps track of exactly which items are belong to which box / factory / dates etc.

Desktops are thought to be best used for short term storage.

While the Coolidor solution is a great idea, (I actually did that for 3 years), I went humidor crazy a few years back and bought over a dozen humidors. (Mostly large 200 -300 count decorative humidors.) I keep them around my home as decoration pieces and as functional storage units.

As for the potential long term storage problems, all my humidors are retrofitted with resovior storage humidity elements. They can go unfilled for approximately 1 year each. Also, to ensure that I get proper humidity, I also use digital hygrometers with high/low memory settings. (If they ever go outside the 68-72 range I can see.) In addition to all this, I very rarely open the humidors. The more they are sealed the better they work.

Finally, I also enjoy trying new cigars. I just took delivery of my new 6 x 8 x 2.5 cabinet humidor for my study. It is equipped with a 110 volt, electronically controlled humidifier. If anyone had any questions about long term storage of cigars, I have pretty much seen it all. (Although I have probably only seen about 5% of what can happen.

As for cross contmination between production runs, since I have to order all my cigars from the same store, they are all a very uniform production run. (There is very limited selection where I live so I must order them.)

Storing cigars for a long term can be very rewarding for the future.

My digital camera is currently indisposed, (Unstable Canoe + Sony Cybershot = Problem), but it should be fixed witin the next couple of days. I will post a new "Show me yours" thread with the pictures.

I am also interested in seeing what everyone else has in humidors/coolidors. Please post them if you can!
