Thread: Humidor smell

    Default Humidor smell

I don't really have a question to ask, or a specific point to make in this thread, but I just want to hear some thoughts on it from anyone who would like to talk. My first humidor was a 10 cigar travel case. Nobody could make me believe that I was going to actually want to store up a collection. Anyway, I noticed after having it for a while that some of the foam started smelling good, and I thought about how nice it would be to have a wood humidor, and all that wood would pick up the smell of all of the cigars. Now I have one but it still smells like spanish cedar and I'm also curious if the strong smell of the wood can affect the cigars, because I have noticed some of the wrappers smell a little like the wood now. So how about coolerdors? Does anyone else like or dislike this smell? Discuss!

I only use coolers and I've never noticed an unpleasant taste or smell of the cigars that are stored in my coolers. I also don't notice the plastic cooler smell I think you're talking about that you experience with a new cooler. I've been storing cigars in my coolers for years and every once in a while when I need a cooler for a party, I empty my coolerdors and use them for their intended purpose. When I convert it back to a coolerdor (put the cigars and beads back in) I still don't notice any unpleasant plastic odor.

My small desk top humidors still smell like Spanish cedar and I've never noticed the cigars wind up smelling or tasting like cedar.

Where's AmericanArmyBoy1989? Someone direct him over here and show him an example of how we reply to decent members because he doesn't like how I talk to asshats like rus.

Did you properly season your humidor? How long has it been in use? How many cigars are in it? Once you've stored cigars in the humi for a lengthy period of time, the tobacco will overtake the wood smell you are experiencing.

I have a coolidor as well, and like Bill, once I got it set up and filled with cigars, boxes, and beads, the only thing I smell is tobacco. I did clean my cooler out very well with bleach and let it air dry in the sun for several hours when I first set it up though.

I have had my humidor in operation since approximately May 2011. Mine seems to have a nice balance of wood and tobacco smell now. I can still smell the wood, but I don't notice that my cigars smell like wood. I think that the humidor will smell more like tobacco the longer it is in operation.

Keep your humidor full and give it time the cedar smell will go away.

My cooler has no smell at all i cleaned it properly and let it sit in the sun all day with the lid open.

Oh, I have only used my humador for a little while, I'm sure it will get better. Its not even like I dislike the smell of spanish cedar, it just makes me feel like its to fresh or something, I feel like an aged humador wouldn't smell like that, but apparently that's not necessarily true.

No doubt, maybe even in this thread: http://www.cigarsmokers.com/threads/...highlight=Alec
I must admit though, it doesn't look like anyone else was interested either. Gotta say I like a few of their cigars, but they aren't a go-to for me by any means.
