Default This is going to get me yelled at

Where I live the only place to buy cigars is at a gas station. I know..this is an evil thing and the gods frown upon my soul. But i was wondering what cigars out of the gas station selection are better than the rest.

I suggest you use your internet connection and google search for cigar retailers.

Nataku, I've been buying most of my cigars from the gas station as well, at least up until the last few weeks when I've been visiting a tobacco shop with my friend. Most stations I've visited only have smaller cigars like Swisher Sweets and King Edward's, which don't suit my taste as I prefer larger cigars. The station I frequent has a broader selection of cigars, albeit cheaper ones, and I tried a handful of them. Bering Churchills became my cigar of choice for months and I still smoke a few per week now. They seemed to get less-than-glowing reviews from other board visitors, but I'm sure they're used to higher-quality cigars than I have been. Another larger brand that is available on-and-off at my gas stations was Grenadier Churchills. I bought a few of these a couple months ago and didn't enjoy them nearly as much. I'm bad with brand names, so I can't remember some of the other kinds that I often notice on gas station shelves. It seems as though the selection is often different at every station anyway, so there's no guarantee that what I recommend will be available in your neck of the woods.

Generally speaking, cigarsarge's advice is probably the best. If you can avoid the gas stations brands, do so. But otherwise, some experimentation with available brands at your station of choice is probably your best course of action.

Tobacco store in my town sucks. Every cigar price is more than double price of internet sources.

My reasons for not smoking the usual brands found in drug stores and gas stations are:

    1. Horrible construction- Nicotine soaked paper binders that make them just as addictive(sp?) as cigarettes. Short filler, which IMO never tastes as good as long filler. Wrappers do not taste as good either. Just plain shotty.

    2. Additives- These cigars are produced very cheaply, and are Mass-Market products, just like cigarettes. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to find that the filler is the same tobacco for MM cigarettes.

    3. Enjoyment- I would rather smoke something that I am actually looking forward to. I have smoked a few of the MMs in the beginnings of my courtship with cigars, and I will never go back to them.

    Hope this helps.

I strongly believe in an informed consumer... Do yourself a favor if you're going to smoke gas station cigars.

Find a tobacconist nearby and purchase even a low priced, hand made LONG FILLER cigar (it should only cost a couple of bucks), and then some of your favorite of the gas station variety. Spread out a piece of newspaper on a table and undo each of the cigars side by side. Take a look at the difference....

It should be fairly evident why you would want the hand made long filler cigar.

If I were you I would just let the gas station fill up your car and buy your cigars online. Better selection, great prices and lots of sampler packs!

One day I was out driving around and I realized I had left my cigars in one of my other cars. I was dyin' for a cigar so I figured I'd drop in at the first gas stations and pick me up some Munniemakers. Now granted, these are a machine made cigar BUT with a natural wrapper and they are notoriously inexpensive and very popular here in Connecticut. I figured I'd by a box of five.

Well a box of five cost me almost $6.00

I had NEVER seen these "cheap" cigars cost so much. Then I looked at the prices of the other gas station garbage they had and they were ALL ridiculously priced.

The bottom line is buying gas station cigars is NOT cost effective. Just get them from retailers off of the internet.
