H. Upmann disappointing

Non Cuban Upmanns used to be a great line of cigars when they only used Cameroon wrappers. Some time during the boom, they switched to Indonesian wrappers and ruined their entire line of cigars. Back in the mid 80's the Upmann cigars were some of the best on the market.

The Cuban Upmanns are one of Cubas best lines. They are very consistent throughout the line and use very high quality tobacco.

I've had similar experiences with the H. Upmann N/C line. They do have a Cameroon line. Harris, are those like the old ones??? I've not been tempted to try them, but if what you say is true....

BTW - my FAV Cameroon wrapped cigar is the Cuesta Rey Stanford's Cameroon Reserve... Friggen Godfather and CigarSarge got me hooked on those...

Smoked an H. Upmann a couple days back. This was an ISOM Corona- tubo. I enjoyed it very, very much. We went to Cancun in late October for what was supposed to be a five day trip. Ended up being stuck in Hurricane Wilma. We were evacuated from our luxury hotel to a very ghetto school downtown without electricity, running water or anything else we take for granted here for 6 awful days. By the time we got home, it ended up being a 14-day adventure. The beauty of it all is that I was able to sneak some Upmanns, Punch and Cohibas through customs without any problem. I think they felt sorry for the hell we had to endeavor or something because they practically pretended not to see anything. On one occassion, right after the hurricane ended, there were a few local looters lined up outside of our shelter. I had the opportunity to buy a 10- box of large Cohibas for $2.00 American or 20 Pesos. My better half encouraged me not to contribute to their cause and I still regret not making that deal to this day.

Back on subject: Cuban Upmanns are extremely good. Non ISOM versions are extremely average.

ggeise, the Upmann Vintage Cameroons that are out right now are a pretty good smoke if you can get them at the right price. I paid 75 bucks for the Lonsdales in the glass jar.

I got another one in a freebie sampler. Upon close inspection, the wrapper on this one looks good too. Nice and toothy. The first one I had didn't have any tooth at all. It was papery and veiny. From my experience so far, a nice toothy wrapper generally bodes well for the cigar. Some Padron Maduros I enjoyed had a very toothy wrapper. Anyhow, if this one turns out decent, I'm going to chalk up the 1st one as just a single bad cigar.

H. Upmann_ CUBAN....ARE THE BOMB!

They are the bomb, especially the Mag 46 and Sir Winston.

i too was dissapointed by my H. Upmann, it was the Monarch tubo. i decided to give the brand another chance with a little $1.50 Demi Tasse 33x4.5. It really succeeded my expectations. I was overall very pleased with the demi, a very good, short smoke.

exceeded them. after the other H.U. though, that wasnt hard to do. The demi was definitely a very good smoke. the draw was a little on the tough side, but the flavor made up for it.
