First smoke

I had my first cigar about a week ago, it was not as i hoped though. I smoked a cuban cigar, but when i went to light it on the cut off end it would not light. My friend said that i should bite off the opposite rounded end. I did this and in fact it did light but i know for a fact this is not the proper way to light a cigar. Could some seasoned cigar smoker please let me know what is the correct way to light the cigar?

You use a cigar cutter to cut the cap of the cigar, then use the flame and lite the foot. puff while lighting, so you get it going. Puff every 20 seconds or so. If it gets off, lay off, if it gets thin, puff on.

When cutting the cap, if you look closely, you'll notice it looks like there might be two or three thins pieces of tobacco on top, cut as close as you can to the cap, without cutting below it. This will help it from unwrapping.

It sounds like the right way too me. You need to cut off the cap (the rounded end) or bite it off as you did, then just light the other end as you puff until it is lit.

I light mine about halfway up the cigar. Cuts my smoking down quite a bit.
