    It sounds like the right way too me. You need to cut off the cap (the rounded end) or bite it off as you did, then just light the other end as you puff until it is lit.

    I light mine about halfway up the cigar. Cuts my smoking down quite a bit.

    Welcome!!!

    Just one more thing though, don't bite the end off. Invest in a cigar cutter or puncher and enjoy! If you bite it you run the risk of unwrapping it, it also means you may end up with bits of tobacco in your mouth and it may make the cap end a bit soggy.
