Like Basil said, throw your smokes in tupperware with a little bit of sponge and some distilled water. A fridge is too dry and so, any prolonged exposure will dry out your smokes. The only time I put smokes in the fridge are when I get a new batch of smokes in the mail and it's been real hot out. I will then put those newly arrived smokes in my freezer for 24 hours to make sure the beetles don't hatch. Other than this though, my smokes don't go near a fridge.

Any thoughts on storing cigars in a properly humidified air tight container in the refrigerator?

    Bad idea.

Properly humidified air tight container on your kitchen table is a MUCH better option. You want to keep your tobacco in a tropicalish environment, not a Greenlandish environment.

Putting your cigars in the freezer 24hrs won't crack beetle eggs or larvae. An industrial freezer (-20) is recommended for at least 3 days (72hours) and a regular consumer freezer some say 10 days, some say longer.

One thing is for sure if you have larvae on your hands and you don't erradicate them (freeze them until they actually crack) putting them in the fridge or freezer, you'll simply motivate them to stay warm by busying themselves more on your tobacco. 24hrs is probably worse than doing nothing at all.
