Well, my B&M owner who is Cuban by birth and Venezuelan by upbringing, and completely fluent in Spanish and English, says that ligero means "quick".
I grew up speaking Italian and took 3yrs of HS spanish. I often get the two languages confused. Ligero does mean light in Italian. I'm sure your Cuban friend is correct. We share words that differ in meaning. It got me in a lot of trouble in school. I'm sure you can see the relationship between light and quick.
