    Swallowing a small portion is acceptable with pipe smoke. You do that with a cigar, and you'll have an irritated throat. I too however breath some smoke out of my nose for full flavor. You can do this by taking a puff, placing your tongue on the roof of your mouth and exhaling out of your nose.

    my guess is the throat pain is from deep throating and swallowing.












    I think I mean cigars.
