You know, when I was commuting to London, I could shuffle up to $3000US back and forth without any duties or VAT. I don't know how it works in Canada, but it seems you should be able to bring back a couple hundred worth of "souveniers" from your big vacation to Buffalo...

Yeah, what ever happened to "free trade"?

I have a feeling it's free like speech, not free like beer.

I don't know the exact numbers, but depending on how long you stay affects how much you are allowed to bring back tax free. Ask at the boarder and you should get a answer. If you are going for a day, or a weekend or a week all makes a difference on how much you are allowed to bring back. A few good ideas here, like just putting a couple sticks in it, throwing out the packaging and receipt and just telling the boarder, if they ask, that you brought it to the states to keep your cigars in for the trip. They can't prove anything any ways. I brought back two box's of cigars from Vegas this summer and I just told them they are from Canada and I smoked them on the trip(I smoked a few on the way back so they weren't full box's). I am pretty sure you won't get charged any fees at the post office if the "gift" box is check marked on the customs form. So having it sent to you, or sending it to yourself are good options too.

Thnks Roham, that's another great tip to try if all else fails, I am getting the hint it may be expensive no matter what the route.. too bad, the U.S. has some really good stuff and with the low dollar exchange now, it becomes hard to resist !!

Yeah, I was reading something in...hmm...maybe Cigar Magazine about someone who bought some cubans in Canada and was terrified to bring them back to the states. They were expecting tobacco-sniffing dogs to be waiting on the border for them. Instead, the got a nod and a "Have a good day, eh" and went right over the border.

As a complete aside, I was once searched by US Customs on my way back from Amsterdam. We went to the coffee shop the night before and I wore the same jeans on the plane... Apparently one of the dogs thought I smelled real good. :) It was a little scary just because one silly joint could get me in a LOT of trouble (they just just confiscate it). But I was calm and chatted with the officer, so he went through my bag and sent me on my way.

I was just wondering if any of you guys think the trade embargo between the US and Cuba will end when Castro dies?
