Yeah but if the transmission has major problems as you describe, it has to be removed from the car do fix whatever it needs. At that point, it's crazy to not completely go through the whole thing, replacing all the seals, friction plates and the steels so honestly, I still don't see how it can be done for less than $1,500.00 to $2,000.00
