Thread: Spring Draft, need names

    Default Spring Draft, need names

As a I posted a while back I want to have a spring draft.

Start Date: I would like to kick it off Feb. 16th. (updated)

The rules: Each person sends in FOUR nice sticks with a VALUE OF ATLEAST $8. Remember this is msrp, so make sure your not sending in a very over priced stick you got at a local shop. You will also include $4 for shipping.

This is a draft, there is no quality for quality, so if you send in all $20 sticks, dont complain if you end up with only $9 sticks.

I'm modeling this after the draft that went on here a few months back, only insted of going though each round and posting your picks, all your picks will be submited and your cigars will be assigned based on your pick number (will be drawn for by an unbias person not in the draft) and your cigar picks. Look for the thread I made a while back on more details on this. It will allow the entire draft to happen within a matter of hours once all of the cigars are recieved from the contestents and will be on there way back to you very soon. All of the pick orders will be posted so that they can be reviewed to see there is no fraud going on.

I am personally inviting everyone that posts regularly on these forums.

If you want to participate please post your name here and send me your address.

Like I said I want to kick this off Feb. 5th, so there is about a month to get your cigars and such, no big hurry.

People in draft so far: (updated as people sign up)

Do we buy the sticks, and send them to you? Is that how this is to work?

Yes the cigars are sent in to me, once all cigars are recived they will be listed and a random pick order will be assigned to the contestents and it will be picked in that order going 1,2,3,4,4,3,2,1,1,2,3,4 ect until al cigars are gone. You will send in four cigars, and you will get back four cigars.

Uhm. I've never done this before, but it sounds like fun. I won't have access to a computer between Feb 6th and 13th I think. But other then that count me in.

I'll add a week to it so that it will start on the 16th, that will give everyone a little more time to get stuff sent in and give you a change to participate.

If nobody else is interested I'm just going to call it off.

I guess nobody wants to play, so its offically a no-go.

  12. Default Start Small

I say start small and lets have fun. I am interested and after we enjoy the sticks we can start again.

I'll try it again in a few months, think everyone is still lacking money from the holidays. April or so may be a better time.

I, too, would not mind getting in on some sort of draft. My only confusion is the stipulations-

"Each person sends in FOUR nice sticks with a VALUE OF ATLEAST $8. Remember this is msrp, so make sure your not sending in a very over priced stick you got at a local shop."

Is this a per stick MSRP? If so, where is there a reference point out there to find individual MSRPs? If not, is it based on a box MSRP price divided by the number of sticks in that box?

    Examples:

-I think the LFD DL chisel is a fine smoke. I buy these for $7.49 individually, so it would not qualify for this draft.

-I also enjoy CR Centro Finos- Sungrown and Cameroon (when I can find them). These retail here for 7.00- again a non qualified smoke.

-A Montecristo White Label runs me 10.75 a pop (tobacco tax here runs 35%), but at a box price they would average out at around $7.95. Would this not qualify?

It would be easier to skip past the strange amount of $8 per cigar and jump to $15 and up.

    Suggestions to get more participation:

    - Put a range on the smoke value: i.e. $7-$12 per stick instead of a hard cutoff.

    - Maybe solicit a wish list from draft participants before the smokes are offered into a central repository? This would separate an associated cost from what people actually desire and enjoy and removes MSRPs and individual area taxes etc. from the equation.

    Thoughts???

That was each, and MSRP can be found online for most all cigars. The $8 was a little high, and I'm thinking of changing it when I try to do the draft later in a few months.
