Where at in Tn are you? I'm guessing Knoxville or close to it. The Home Depot or Lowes both carry small strips of wood for projects as well as different styles of quarter round and other molding. I wouldn't worry about using spanish cedar since it would be hard to find in the size strips you are looking for. It seems like a soft wood would seal better. You could probably get someone at the one of the stores to even cut the strips to length. The gorilla glue is a good idea also, I've used it before with no complaints. I have to head to Lowes this morning, I'll see if I see anything that might be what you need. What are the inside dimensions of the lid(where the strips would be attached)? length, width, depth.
