Thread: Read Me First!

  1. Default Read Me First!

Hello all, k, my hubby picked up this passion in Kuwait while serving w/ some cigar enthusiasts. He's new to this and I know nothing about it. His birthday is near so I want to buy him a humidor and fill it w/ cigars. Please help! He loves Al Picino and I found a humidor w/ his pic on it at cigarsinternational.com but how do I know if its any good? It's lined w/ spanish cedar which I see is a must, but what else do I look for? Will the glass top be ok or will it let out moisture? Also, what else should I get w/ it...I'm seeing all this stuff about beads?

    Heres the descrip. for it:

    - 50 cigar capacity
    - Fully lined with Spanish cedar
    - Spanish cedar divider
    - Glass-top display / picture frame
    - Analog hygrometer
    - Humification device

Cigars International is a reputable dealer, so I'm sure the humidor will be just fine.

    Some useful add-ons:
    Heartfelt Beads
    Digital Hygrometer

If you want to get him some cigars, I suggest finding a local shop and asking for suggestions. Explain how much he's smoked and some stuff he enjoys (if you know). They should be able to get you a good variety in your price range...

How much money do you want to spend and how much time do you have before his birthday? Also, what kind of cigars does he like?

I personally believe that bigger is better. Check out this humidor:

    http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/lot.cfm?lotID=336243

This one costs about the same as you would have spent (depending on how the bidding goes, but my experience says this one won't go above $80, but I could be wrong), but it holds 70 more cigars AND comes with a digital hygrometer, which you will need anyway. To get it, you just create a login to CigarBid (requires a credit card number, but it's safe) and then bid on the item. For this particular item, I would not bid above $80.

Then, I'd go to the Heartfelt Bead Site and get the "Heartfelt Beads 65% 2 Ounce Humi-Tube (up to 75-150 count humi) " - $14.95

Then, go to the store and buy a gallon of distilled water.

This would take care of the humidor portion of your birthday present. Let us know what kind of cigars he likes and then we can recommend something perhaps. These are just some of my ideas and my ideas do not necessarily represent the best course of action, but rather "A" course of action.

Thank you all for your advice, I'll still check in for new replys...the more advice the better...I will definatley tell him about this site as soon as I set him up w/ his humidor and cigars...and the other stuff I see he needs...until then, I don't want to spoil the surprise.
