    Default IPod Delema

I just picked up an iPod to replace (via Best Buy's 2 year Replacement Plan) a mp3 player (Creative Nomad) I've had for almost 2 years. Before I got the iPod, I downloaded all my music from the other mp3 player onto my hard drive (about 20 Gig's worth). Now I've basically used up all the extra memory on my computer. I want to load the music onto my iPod and then delete it off of my hard drive, but I'm afraid that when I do that the next time I connect my IPod to my computer to charge it or upload a few songs, it will update my IPod with the music which is on my hard drive which would be pretty much none, thus erasing all the music on my IPod. Does anyone have a solution to this? I can only think of getting an external hard drive, but is there a way to change the settings on the IPod software (iTunes) so that it will only upload the new songs and not erase the rest?
(edit: I ment Dilemma, not delema)

I don't believe so.... unless someone else has some different information.....

You might be better off investing in an external hard drive to store all of your music. Even if there was a way to do it, what would ahppen if you lost the iPod or it got stolen, you would lose all of your music.

Here is a site that helped me when I first bought the iPod.... http://www.ilounge.com/

Also might want to invest in "iPod for Dummies"
I'm not big on doing reviews, tobacco doesn't taste like "cocoa" or "nutty" or "mocha" to me, it tastes like freakin' TOBACCO. I know what I like and I really don't care what other people think of other cigars. I've never read a review and said to myself "Wow, that sounds like a cigar I'd like to try!"

Yeah, that's an easy one, just go into preferences in iTunes and under iPod preferences, choose to update songs manually. Then all adding and taking away of songs is done by you when you drag onto your ipod or select songs and then click delete on your ipod.

That'd suck if you have to keep 2 copies of your tunes. I don't know anything about the ipod, but here's an idea. Save just a few tunes to a CD and erase them from your hard drive, or move them to another directory, then hook up the ipod and see if those tunes go away. If not, you're golden. If they do, you've got them saved somewhere else.

burn a copy of your music on cd/dvds. dvds are $1-2 ea so for $20-$30, you could keep a permanent back up and it'd take about an hour tops.

If all your music is on your ipod, just get a program called podworks, plug in your ipod, and run the program, it allows you to copy from your ipod to your HD.

    Default The Solution...

is that I Sally up and buy some external storage. Using the work laptop for my personal stuff has been cheap and convenient for now, but I really need to have a hard drive that is more that I can keep the music, resume, personal pictures, etc. on. So off to BUY.com and got a 160GB external. Let the downloading begin!
