    Maybe he knew they would lose in the shoot out? I mean, Barthez is great, but just doesn't have the height. Zidane had an awesome career, you can't take that away. And he is, in my mind, one of the two best midfielders ever to play the game. So, why not???

    Maybe with him still in the game for the shootout, it might have went longer or ended different. France might not have had a player that missed a shot if Zidane was still in.
