I ordered my humidor and cigar sampler from Cuban Crafters today. Now I'm anxiously waiting for my cigars like a kid before Christmas.

Not that I was given cigars for Christmas as a kid, well, you know what I mean.
If you are interested in getting a nice cigar sampler check out Newbie Sampler Thread in the exchange section of the board

Lopaka, that's the one! The one I had was the "Alto" which was, as Big Pappa Puff thought" a maduro. From the website description:

A slow burning full bodied cigar, firmly rolled, well constructed with depth that emits a beautiful aroma. The cigar possesses a slight hint of cocoa with a smooth rounded nutlike finish. Each mouthful of smoke is truly rich in flavor and maintains the same consistency throughout. An absolute delight from the first draw. A definite after dinner cigar and one that will compliment any premium congnac.
I think that for a newbie the phrase "full bodied" might be a warning. I could detect a bit of the cocoa flavor, but I swear that the aroma that I most identified was "manure". I know, it's a tough review, but I just couldn't deal with it. I smoked about a half an inch and thought "This is enough already!"

Greetings, and welcome to CS. Retired at age 40? I dream of the possibility. Congratulations on getting down to the things you really love, the music and instrument making. I have some friends in Boulder, CO that are big into Banjo's, guitars and the mandolin. Ever listen to MM&W or Leftover Salmon?

PS- BPP, your knowledge of cigars astounds me.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." -unknown
