Had some moonshine bourbon from Alabama last night, and I must say it far surpasses any other bourbon I have had. It was 107 proof according to the guy who gave it to me. He used to run it for the maker while he was in college. He recently got a legitimate job managing a business so he is just enjoying the last few jars. According to him this bourbon fetches $40 per pint. I would say the flavor profile is somewhat near Makers, but a little bit sweeter and way smoother. If he was still in the business, I would have bought a pint or two off of him because I doubt I will ever find a bourbon to match it.

After reading this thread I picked up both Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve. I found Woodford smoother on the front end while Buffalo finished a little mellower. Both well worth the price!

    I agree.
I find myself going to the Buffalo Trace more often, between the two. I enjoy the initial bite, followed by the smoothness. It transitions very quickly.

I tried Buffalo Trace for the first time the other day. It is quite nice.

Has anyone tried Sam Houston straight bourbon?

I haven't seen it in my neck of the woods. How does it compare to the Buffalo?

I finished the Woodford a few evenings ago and finished with a Buffalo Trace and I have to agree on the preference.

Sam Houston is made with quite a bit more rye, so it should have a little "spice" on the finish. I'm not an expert, but it seems like a nice counter-balance to a full flavored, earthy cigar. I don't know where to begin with a comparison or description.
