The mold comes from a high RH... the beads will prevent the RH from getting to high.
Not sure about the alcohol thing as well, though I recall reading that somewhere but personally I would wipe out the mold off the humidor, whipe down the affected sticks and move em out. then let the humidor dry out a little and give it another whipe this time with a mix of distilled water and a tiny bit of anti-bacterial dish soap. Then season as per the Herfer's guide after that dries down again. Also, get the beads mentioned or the one Mark offers from cigarmony.com. I use the beads myself but have heard good things about the other as well.
