Yep, the membership number does reflect the younger trend as mentioned in the article. Out of the 21 members who responded in the "what's your age" thread, the overall average for CS is 30.3. We have cigarsarge to thank for jacking up the number, due to him dragging his oxygen tank with him over here. Without his old @$$ joining, the number plummets to 29.6. I think this is the case on other boards as well.

Undoubtedly we are having a "mini-boom" The reporter credits flavored cigars with starting out the rookies, but I don't doubt that they will move on to the "real" cigars as they progress. I remember going through a similar experience myself. I looked at brands like Onyx and thought: "who in the hell likes this!?" Appreciation takes time. You know something is going when Cusano is experiencing 41% increase in sales, expansion into a new facility, as well as added staff. Who would've thunk it?

Scotty, the average age of membership of any particular cigar board cannot necessarily be equated with the any "younger trend" mentioned in the article. You’re comparing apples and oranges here. Some "haughty intellectual" you are.

The "source" of the article is "manufacturers and retailers" with no hard evidence presented to support this statement.

This article was really a promotion piece for Cusano Cigar rather than any kind of real journalism. Once again, their cigars are pretty lousy.

    I really loved this one:
"The best cigars in the world come from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic and Honduras," Holliway said.
We all know that just about any cigar real aficionado would have mentioned "Cuba" in that statement. However since tobacco retailers in the United States cannot sell Cuban cigars, ya kinda think he's being just a wee bit disingenuous with this statement?

Now, statements like this are fine for the "opinion" page of a newspaper but "articles" that state opinions and unfounded facts that lead the reader to believe that it's the truth are about the poorest example of "journalism" I've ever seen. Kind of like the "Democratic Underground" right Scotty?

This BS and many other parts of this article make it perfectly clear that it cannot be believed and should make us all ask what's the REAL motivation behind the purpose of this article?

    Pretty pathetic.......

LOL-excellent point. If you really want amusement, check out a computer class at any community college or cc hosted class in a high school tech room. You will never laugh so hard as when you see old folks behind a computer.

i think the increase in cigar smoking with younger people is a good thing. me being 20 I know that the people from my generation are, for the most part, IDIOTS. i think that this may show a maturing of the morons, they are putting down the blunts and forties and experiencing fine smoke the why it was supposed to be.

That's o.k., we all went through a stage where we were 16 and knew it all, time does wonders-just wait.

Even the growth of flavoreds is a good thing. There is a natural progression of sorts when it comes to cigars. Now don't get me wrong, I would never turn down a moontrance, but I tend to favor un-flavored cigars. When I first started, I liked the Kahlua cigar and even bought a Cojimar box. I think if everyone else was honest, they would pretty much say the same thing. Very few people start out smoking VSG's and have avoided the dog rockets their entire lives.
