Thread: What would you recommend for me?

  1. Default What would you recommend for me?

I am trying to open my pallete to new tastes. I am looking for suggestions to try out. Here is a list of my current favorites, I tend to stick to these for fear of buying a shite cigar and hating it!

    CAO Brazilia
    Ashton VSG
    Ashton #50
    Onyx
    Partagas Black
    Montecristo #2....mmmmSpicy!

I also just tried a Camacho Select, good even burn, great tatse even down to the end and nice hints of spicyness on the backside of the exhale!! i would buy these again.

Like I said I am looking something new that I might like basedon hat I have posted. Or something I HAVE to try.

My local guy has Opus X for $45. He says the ones he has only coem out around christmas time every year. Should I pick a couple up or is he jacking the price?
He also has Ahton ESG 20 and 21 I bought a 21 but havent had it yet.

    Phew.....Rant over

never had one of them Opus... didnt care terribly for the Onyx... i did pick up a CAO sampler pack for $40, so if you like that brazilia... that sampler has a pretty good assortment to try.

Don't buy the opus. There are enough shops around Northern MA southern NH that you can get them at for a lot less.

That being said, was that opus in a individual coffin (box)

    As for those other cigars

With you on the Partagas Black and VSG. How about a Padron Anniversario. Very distintive cigar. I like the exclusivo size. Boxed pressed, hard as rock(slight exaggeration) and still draws perfectly. Amazing roll. 3 for the price of that $45 opus.

$40 for an Opus?? That is outrageous. They're good but not that good. I'd pay $10 for one, which I did. Probably won't do it again unless I find them for that same price or lower. I was just thinking to myself yesterday I need to go to the local shop to see if any are in.

Some of the more popular cigars right now are Tatuaje and Padilla Miami. You might want to try some of those. I haven't tried any, couldn't tell you if they are worth anything or not. Padrons and Fuentes are the two that come recommended by me.

I am not sure about the coffin. I will check this week. He did say they were a limited release and only come out around x-mas time. If this is the case does it warrant the 45?

If the guy is selling Opus for $45, find a new shop. Give the D.C. Maximus a try as well as the Padron Anny. I also really enjoy the Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve, but don't let them gouge you on that either.

If you are looking for variety without feeling buyer's remorse in the end, try the Newbie Sampler thread in the exchange section. Participating members should be able to give you a nice sampler you may not normally get to try from your local B&M (especially if they are charging you $45 for that Opus).

If you are just starting out in the cigar hobby, you may want to hold off in making big purchases like that. Your pallate might not enjoy a $45 cigar compared to a nice $7 cigar. It it just sucks when you spend all that dough on a single cigar, and then wished you had bought that box of "go-to smokes" instead.

PS - You may want to consider looking into another B&M or start ordering cigars online.

Thanks for the advice guys! All his other prices were pretty much right there. Padron Anniversary-$18, Ashton 50-around $10, CAO Brazilia $8, Ashton ESG 21-$19

Do these seem super high? I think he is just trying to play on my lack of knowledge and the thrill of the chase with the Opus.

Which padron is that? If it's the 40th anniv. then that's a deal.

Otherwise the prices seem with in a buck or two.

I don't know. there is the 40th - usually 25 bucks a stick. I thought that and the 64 were anniv. but I don't know. Its hard to figure seeing most on line vendors screw it up anyway and I hardly ever smoke them..

Bill - help me out here.

I went to the site and saw the two different anniversaries your talking about. I have only had the 1964 anniversary edition.

Only Opus that should even be close to that price and it would still be high is the Opus X A in a coffin. The other sticks that come to that price range is the Forbidden X Series Robusto which is MRSP at $150 for 4 sticks and the Opus X Forbidden X Lanceros at the same price of $150. Of course you have the CFCF Fun box of 22 sticks which is a MSRP of $750. Those are the only Opus X that would be close to $45 a stick.

Basically what I am saying is that whoever is selling the Opus X at $45 a pop is trying to screw you. As the normal line of Opus X at MSRP is between the price range of $8 to $15 with the exception being the A at $25. Just do a ISO post if you are wanting to try an Opus X as they come out 4 times a year and the new shipment should be out pretty soon.

Went in today and checked out the Opus it is in a coffin. They are the Forbidden 2004.

On another note. I had an Ashton VSG that bunred horribly!! It fell apart, wrapper came off, and it canoed! Very unpleasing for $12!
