Default Mold on a few cigars

Got a box of Indios in the mail yesterday from a company called Rocky. $80+ box(before I found them 1/2 that from TNT. Had mold on 4 cellophaned sticks. Brushed clean and had to scrape a little too, but not through the wrapper. The rest of the box looks fine. I left them all out for several hours and then put the 4 in a ziplock and closed the lid on the others. I was thinking of a quarantine tupperdour for them till I'm satisfied they are safe. Any thoughts/suggestions on this plan? Didn't want to bother with a return on these( not exactly a high dollar purchase). Thanks

At $80 a box, I would call that a high dollar purchase. I have heard of multiple returns for boxes half this price. But in the end, it is your choice, if it's just the 4, and you are comfortable, with them, I wouldn't blame you for keeping them.

That is sub par , especially if you have had them for half the price from someone else.

$80 would be worth the return hassle for me, but its your call there. I would probably do the quarantine on all the sticks, and probably remove them from the box they came in.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Call their customer service dept and talk to them. Know what will make you happy and ask them for it.

If it were me, I would explain what happened (don't be a dick about it,) reference the competitors price (make sure they are identical items... same size, wrapper, count per box, etc. and provide a link for them) and ask them if they would replace the original box and honor the difference as a store credit. Be prepared to return the original item if they request it. I wouldn't be shy about asking for the return shipping cost to be added to the store credit. I would also request that they inspect the replacement before sending it out. I have never dealt with Rocky's but they seem to have a pretty good reputation.

But that's me... you do whatever you are comfortable with.

call them and explain your problem. If it is the Rockys I know they will take care of you. I would bet the Puros Indios were shipped from the factory so damn wet the mold started the day they were boxed.

+1 on Shelby's advice, no time in life for moldy cigars.

Drop us a line ....we do aim to please....ask for Jack or Scott, we will make it right...we are after all the "Internet Good Guys!"

We can discuss the pricing issue when you call or email. A difference of that much usually has an explanation, like close out, or even an out of stock used a s a loss leader to switch the consumer to an in stock brand.

My experience with Rocky's has been A+ and when the guy posts to your thread with a phone number, I'd call. Its obvious you will be taken care of.

Wow, a rep responding and willing to correct something. That's customer service. I'm going to look into buying some stuff from Rocky. That's awesome.

Good luck with what you decide, because in the end, it's all about how happy your are with your purchase.

He is the OWNER of Rockys. As you learn about cigars and cigar bulliten boards you will learn who are the good guys and who the POS retailers are. Case in point ,CI is a huge faceless mega retailer(POS). Rockys is a local NY shop. You will learn that saving .39 cents on a box is not worth the cs hassle if you have a problem at places like CI.

Spoke to someone at Rocky's this evening and they are going to send me a 5 sticks to make up for the moldy ones. He suggested the tupperdour quarantine method should work fine. Said that mold grows quickly and if 3 weeks doesn't see a reappearance, they will be fine. He also apoligized for the problem and seemed knowledgeable and helpful. By the way, it wasn't quite half price. $85 +5 shipping on special at Rocky's compared to a closeout price of 49.95 + free shipping at TNT. Will probably be using both companies in the future. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
