    Default Stick for Soldiers

Anyone ever send sticks to some soldiers overseas? Just wondered? I'm putting a Cigar package together for a troop right now. Nothing crazy, just something for some guys who deserve it and enjoy smokes like us. Found some units that like smokes and some even have cigar clubs.

Here's 1 of my local shops. http://www.nickscigarworld.com/cigarsfortroops.html They keep an aquarium by the register and send the gar donations to the troops. Check the pics and tally links.

They get danger pay. They can buy their own.

That's a fairly ignorant statement. I really don't think it is the issue of a 3$ smoke, it is more of an issue of availability. And for whatever it's worth, military personnel are not paid nearly what they deserve.

Any little thing we can do for the men and women who protect our country is worth all of the time and money you can spare. The folks in our armed forces deserve your gratitude and this is a very good way to show it. It's not really about the price of the smokes or whether or not they can get them on their own it's about them knowing that someone back here appreciates what they're doing and cares about them.

Bigsmoke I know you were joking in the apprentice thread with the crack about stealing cigars and I sincerely hope you are joking now.

    That's not the point.

My point is that I work hard for my money. Just because someone decides to go into the military and risk their life for their country does not make that person a hero to me. I live in Canada. We do not have troops in Iraq, but we do have troops in Afghanistan. I do not agree that Canada should have troops there at all. Being Canadian, I will not offer my thoughts on U.S. military activities. We all choose our own paths in life. I do not expect anyone to feel pitty for my personal choices and I don't need others trying to make me feel guilty. Hey, that is as best as I can explain my opinion. Like it or not, it is mine. And money is not the issue here at all. I honestly hope there are no hard feelings.

The issue is that you don't "get it".

Sure you do. I personally think you're a shit-stirring troll, but that's just my opinion. No hard feelings.

then why make the statement at all? your non-statement is in itself a backhanded comment.

    #1 - we don't pity you.
#2 - with decisions on the military - whether WE AMERICANS (and of course, or fellow cross-BOTLs like Newf, Drew, Roham, etc.) agree or disagree with the decisions that lead our GIs in harms way, we support them.

I'm probably too new to chime in here, but being military...I can't resist.

I live by this quote, because it helps make intolerable people more...ummm...errr...tolerable. However, being Canadian, my service doesn't directly affect you. Either way, you are quite entitled to your opinion, as you already know.

There are folks who can watch a commercial about starving children and say something like "They aren't mine, so what do I care?" Insensitive? Yes. But, an opinion nonetheless. I'd speak up if I heard that said, though, and I'd say, "Glad you think that way, but like so many things, there's a time and a place. It isn't now and it's not here."
I don't know enough about CS, yet, to say that in this forum.

I'm really sorry you feel the way you do. I've read everyone else's replies to you and I don't have anymore to add, other than I hope you never find yourself in a situation where you are having to follow your boss' orders (regardless of whether you agree with the orders) and you are repeatedly trashed, blamed, or disrespected by people who either know very little about what you're doing or are too involved in their own lives to care. That's all.

I don't know you, so you can completely ignore me.

Sorry, you're wrong. In a hearbeat you would follow your bosses orders and defend the Canadian's when they were under attack. As would the full might and power, with every last drop of it's blood - the very military CigarStroke condemns.

And I honestly believe (having spent some time with Canadian soldiers) that they would feel exactly the same way about us (THANK GOD!!!)

    Default Iraq

Just returning from a year in Baghdad, i will add my two cents. I can tell you after working 15+ hours a day (seven days a week) the only real break to escape the reality of the day was sitting around having a cigar in the evening. Shit we would give up an hour of sleep, which was damn precious then, to relax and shoot the breeze over any cigar was nice. Money really isn't the issue, we could order from JR's and get cigars if we wanted to. Even the dried out fake cubans that HAJI sold were even nice. Point is if you ever send soldiers cigars, they will more appreciated than you can imagine. There were a lot of nights that it helped ease away the day.

BTW I don't really get upset over people thoughts or comments about the war. You really got to be over there and experience it to be able to comment on it in a way some have chosen. If they haven't then i just take it for what it is worth.
