The way to man up and act like you give a shit would be to contact the recipient in a timely manner to see if they got the cigars. If they didn't, you need to try and work something out to complete YOUR obligation. Ask them if they want you to send more cigars, or maybe you could just send a personal check for an agreed on dollar amount and they could buy their own if you don't want to risk the US mail.
But getting all defensive and telling people to piss off, that's immature and very asshatish.
There's only two kinds of cigars, the kind you like and the kind you don't.
