Good questionnaire
Would love to see the final product when you get finished.
well as much as i would like to show you a finished product it is lookign doubtful at the moment as i have just priced up the price of the honduran mahogany lining and it came to £177 or $354. It looks like i may not be going ahead with this project, which is a major major pain as i have done most of the paper work for itI am currently looking out for cheaper deals so i will keep you guys posted. thanks for all the questionnaire responses.
edit: whoops made a small miscalculation its actually nearer to £300 or $600

How big of a box are you building? Because that seems a little ridiculous to me.
Have you called a local lumber yard to see what the cost would be?
I know that Rockler ships internationally as well (www.rockler.com) and they have mahogany as well as spanish cedar. Unless you are building a tower cabinet, then the cost should be much less.
spiffy
thats what i thought, i had a good look around and found somewhere fairly local that will do it sawn to my dimensions for a good price, and they offer a student discount, so thats awsome and I will be going ahead with the project. I will post up some pics as i go along. Also if any one has any questions or suggestions it would be great to hear them.
thanks for all you help
glad you are continuing on it! and yes keep us updated. are you still going with the mahogany?

yeah im very happy that i can continue with this project, and i have that the new wood suppliers are very helpful and a joy to work with. I will be using a Brazilian cedar i believe, its basicaly Spanish cedar grown in Brazil, its what the guy at the wood suppliers recomended for lining a humidor so it shoudl be great. I've spent the last couple of days working on getting all the paper work side of the project together, and i am now looking and different finishes and finishing styles. After looking at the thread with pictures of you humidors in it i have i think decided to do a checker board venner finish in two woods , and that will either be french polished (lots of work) or waxed. Any thoughts or ideas on this?
edit: one question i forgot about, my humidor will be made up with a lining of Brazilian cedar and than 3 mill ply and they the veneer, do i need to treat the side of the ply that comes into contact with the cedar to stop it taking on moisture and possibly warping, say with a finishing resin or varnish, or will it be ok left untreated?
Once again thanks for all your help
