Ok I'll jump in............

My first name is Curt. I have a little sister who's a couple years younger than I am. Back in the late 60's she, my mom, and I used to sit and watch Star Trek religiously every weekend. My little sister used to call me "Captain Curt". Hey, she was like 4 or 5 at the time and to her Kirk and Curt sounded the same.......LOL. It sort of stuck but only saw use inside the family and only on occasion.

Some years later while in highschool I discovered the poem "Invictus" (see my tagline at the bottom) and when people used to tell me what to do I'd say, "Hey, it's MY ship and I'm the Captain" (as in go away I don't want to hear it, it's my life and I ruin it how I bloody well please......lol) slightly twisting the meaning of the poem to suit myself. This lead to some acquaintances calling me captain too.

In the early 90's I got into computers and shortly thereafter discovered BBS's. While joining the very first one I was asked for a screen name, so I thought, "Captain". Now, being basically lazy, I thought, why use 7 characters when I can get away with only 4 (also, remember my real name is Curt - 4 letters) so I went with an abbreviation. I chose "Cptn" instead of "Capt" because I like to be different.

Around 95 I got connected to the internet. Any time I was required to have a username for something I continued using Cptn. For most of 10 years, I used it without issue because of the odd spelling. Suddenly I found it was already in use in some places so I added "Blues" because I like blues music and I figured it was long odds on anybody else combining Cptn + Blues to make a username.

Whether someone else started using that same name (or several someone's as the case may be) or some sites just wouldn't accept it, I started finding places online that wouldn't let me use CptnBlues so I added the year I was born at the end and, voila! The present iteration of my username....

If anybody's interested, it's been about 5 years now and I've yet to have this username refused for any reason.
