Thread: Free Beer (PIF)

  1. #1

    Default Free Beer (PIF)

Ok, so I stole (by stole I mean *almost* copy pasted) this idea from our cigar PIF and another forum. I am by all means open to suggestions or changes to this exchange.

    Rules

-Send a total of at least 36 oz or 750ml of good beer (homebrews are MORE than welcome).
    -Send one premium cigar ($8+).
-Must be 21 to participate. Don't lie about your age, there is no need for that.
-The previous winner will post the words FREE BEER on this thread and pay it forward with some free beer and a smoke to enjoy to the first person who answers the post. This post will be AFTER the person has received the beer and cigar from the previous player. It is important that everyone keep up with their commitments in this thread so that no one is left hanging.
-If you have won/given, please dont try to win again for at least 7 days. This gives everyone a chance to win/give.
-Anyone participating in this contest must have posted at least 100 times and be active and in good standing. Also - if you're not known (i.e. you don't have a trading history) someone will have to vouch for your character.

    After you get your package

-Ask who wants it next as soon as possible to keep this moving.
-Post what you got, pics make it even better.
-First person to reply in the thread gets the PIF.
-After posting your interest to receive the PIF, list a couple of style you like, or even specific examples so the person sending to you has an idea what to send.

I'll send the first package out in a styrofoam cooler (I have an old omaha steak cooler that ships well) that we can use until it's worn out.

    So... Free Beer?

Definitely a cool idea, but wouldn't the shipping costs of sending a 6 pack come close to equaling the price of the beer inside? Also, the single cigar would have to be wrapped up pretty well to not get smashed by the bottles.

Sounds like a cool idea. I agree that the shipping and packaging is going to be tough though. I think its doable, its just gonna take commitment.

I can understand the cost factor. It would cost aprox. $13.50 for me to ship a 6 pack to BenjiM via UPS ground. Now while that rivals the cost of a decent 6 pack of beer, the benefit is being able to obtain craft beers not available to your local area. In the end its comparable to paying bar price for a import beer.

As far as the cigar(s) go. It shouldn't be too hard to add a small piece of tupperware to the packaging to protect the sticks from the bottles.

If more people would be interested with a reduced ammount of beer. that can be done as well.

    This is a good idea.

This is actually a GREAT idea.

BUT......I probably won't be playing. It's not that I don't like good beer, but there are no beers available to me locally that everyone else wouldn't be able to buy in their own grocery stores. There are no microbreweries in my town, there are no special beers local to my area (I suppose Abita counts, but that's available throughout the south, like Lone Star Beer), and I am not setup for brewing my own beer - yet.

But great idea. I will be watching this thread.

But you just named two brands that aren't readily available in my area. I would love to try some Abita seasonals and while Lone Star is a PBR product I have never seen it (and I'm a fan of all things PBR). Louisana is also home to Heiner Brau, so I'm not gonna let you off that easy.

Flat rate USPS box cost around $8 or 9$(I think) up to 40 pounds. This type of PIF is not for those with tight budget.

I would also put in some of the rules for the free cigar PIF here. Like the ones that say you have to be a member in good standing and have been here for a few months. Active during that time. Things like that.

    Good Luck guys.

Good point DG, I modified the rules a bit to add the membership requirements and drop the minimum liquid requirement to 36oz or a 750ml bottle. I don't like the idea of high requirements chasing people off.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that would consider Lone Star Beer as a good beer (at least on the microbrew scale). We are in the midst of Mardi Gras, and Abita has a seasonal ale out now, so I suppose I have something to offer.

I'll play, and be the first up. PM sent!

Once I get to 100 posts, I will be joining in -- I have some great samplings from Three Floyds and Bell's that come to mind.

My brother made it out to DL Day last year and picked up several bottles -- I was lucky enough to be the recipient of one. I'll keep any eye on their site for the next release and grab you a bottle or two if I can.

They are doing a lottery system this year. You have to sign up on their site and hope you get picked to be able to purchase DL. This is their hope to fend off all the line jumping and spot holding that occurred last year. That being said, if you get your hands on some let me know and we can negotiate a trade.

A more on topic note, mrtr33s package was just shipped and I have PM'ed him the UPS tracking number.

    Three Floyds: Dark Lord

Its one of those coveted rare microbrews that can only be purchased on DLD (Dark Lord Day) at the brewery. Its a Russian Imperial Stout style beer that comes in at a massive 13% ABV.

Only if you want to. Maybe an action shot of some beer and a smoke. Glad everything made it there in one piece.

The Mexican border isn't known for its microbrews, who is a fan of Shiner?

You know, I was just thinking that same thing. Probably no one in the Ark-La-Tex area would want to take me up on my free beer offer (if they were in it for the novelty of new booze), simply because regionally, a lot of it's the same. I was kind of hoping to reach someone in the NE or out west.....
