I think a glass tubed cigar with a heavy wax seal might work if it was kept in a dark temperature stable enviroment. By no means am I an authority and you should rely on the knowledge of the senior forum members. I've only been smoking good cigars for a couple of months & I constantly struggle with my coolidors.

Try the Boveda packs. I have the same problem down here at Scania, and these really helped me. Use the 72% packs, CI has the 10 pack for around 45 bucks.

Sarge, you struggle with them most likely 'cause you're out in the sandbox where the RH is close to ZERO.

I keep my coolerdors in my finished basement where the RH down there hovers between 55% & 65% just about all year. I haven't had to add water to my beads in three years.

Unfortunately, a person's environment is going to either make his life difficult (like yours) or easy (like mine) to maintain a coolerdor or humidor.

I don't know where this casual guy lives but if he's in Arizona or New Mexico, it's going to be a lot harder for him to pull off this 18+ year project than it is if he lives in Florida.
