I've often wondered why there are people who use the word 'mate' when they get confrontational. It seems to be their method of demeaning the person that they are talking to. Why not just say "I'm better than you"? It's more to the point.

Then there are those people who use "ciao"... they should just say "bye, oh and I'm better than you."

    Ciao, mate.

Wait, so he was demeaning me? If I'd have known that I wouldn't have wasted my time being nice.

I can't tell if what he was attempting to do was demean, belittle, or debase - it's the internet. [shrugging smiley]

"Mate may refer to one of the following meanings based on the generic dictionary definitions of the word:

One of a pair of animals involved in mating"

Hey Oilik... is your name Ryan? Do you live in Ohio? Are you 17 years old? Who is buying those righteous cigars for you - or do you use a fake ID?

Hmm... Seems to go along with the "mate" theme.

I once heard a rumor, not that long ago, that the younger generation uses gas station cigars to hide their marijuana use. Is that still true?
