Thread: Just saying Hello

  1. Default Just saying Hello

    Hello Everyone,

I've been visiting the site for several months now, and finally decided it was time to join in some of the Fun. A little bit about myself. I am 27 yrs old, been smoking about 1-2 cigars a day (depending on finances) for the last 7 years, work 2 jobs one of which is at a cigar store.
I live in the northern part of California, sorta by Oakland. I'm a quiet type so if i dont post much, or often, or answer questions, or answer with very short answers, don't take it personal. ( i only say that because I see that type of stuff has upset a few of you in the past.) More about me, to all you "would be" flamers I am well aware of the fact that i suck at spelling . I am not a member of any other forums (just never felt the need) so if there is any rules or regulations that I should be made aware of just let me know as I break them .

Some of my favorite Smokes are:

    Padron 1926 - anysize
    Padron 6000
    Padron 3000
    A.F. Cuban Belicoso
    A.F. Don Thomas No 2
    Cohiba Extra Vigaroso - anysize
    Cohiba Sublimes
Most Montecristos - with my Fav being Cuban No2 (of course)
    Partagas series D -any size
    Hoyo Dark Sumatra
    All Opus X
    All GOD OF FIRE
    Trinidad Extra Rubusto

    And My all time Favorite:

San Cristobal de La Habana -any size

I know I forgot a few. There is just so many Cigars I like, and I like to change it up from day to day.
So now a few questions for you all. I need ANY feedback that any you of you might have with absolutecigars.com. I'm thinking of ordering and want to make an informed decision.
Heres a weird question, some days as of late, it seems as though i cannot fully taste my cigar. like my palate or taste buds shut down. Do any of you have any tricks to clearing your tastebuds, palate or what ever it is that is keeping me form fully enjoying that cigar? I understand you might need more details to help me with that question, just ask away and maybe we can narrow down cause and solution. I forgot what else I was going to ask . oh well.

    Thanks for your help

Welcome! We're really not that much of a flaming board - even though it may appear so. Sometimes we just gotta poke at one another - it's a brotherhood kind of thing. Some people take it more seriously than others - just let it roll off your back like water on a duck...

As far as taste buds shutting down - that could be a lot of things. If you're smoking 2 cigars a day, your taste buds may be acting weird when you smoke two cigars - or it could be you smoke a very flavorful cigar, and then a not so flavorful cigar which would almost seem bland to you. I know there are certain cigars I've had that are very subtle in their flavors, and if I were to smoke a strong cigar ahead of smoking the milder on, the milder one has no taste to me (i.e. the Partagas green labels). Those types of cigars really require you to smoke it with nothing at all on the palate (no food, no drinks, no nothing). I usually have the cigar with only a glass of water if I think or hear it's going to be that way...

I have also noticed my tastes change depending on my moods. I think I've gotten to the point when I really only smoke cigars when I feel like smoking cigars - not because I have some kind of nicotine urge to do so. Also, certain weather conditions seem to me to change the flavor of the cigar (hotter vs. colder, more humid vs. less humid, rainy vs. dry, etc.).

    Anyways, enjoy your stay....

    Default Welcome to the board......

Well....at least you like one of my favorite cigars....AF Cuban Belicoso. A great cigar.

Yes, some of the people here are highly disturbed. In fact ALL of the people (except me of course) are highly disturbed! You should be very careful about what you say.

!. Don't repeat your postings or ask the same questions over and over again. You will be raked across
    a bed of hot coals.

    2. Don't use ANY avatar relating to George Bush. This pertains to number six below.

    3. Don't upload photos of yourself naked (send them directly to me instead)

    4. Don't ever, ever, ever publicly inquire about obtaining Cubans. Really.

    5. Never attempt to discuss politics, religion or sexual issues. They will rip you to shreds and put you
    out for the wolves.

    7. Always remember that ggiese's avatar is in realtiy a picture of himself. It' s just coincidence that
he's the spittin' image of Groucho Marx.

    8. The most important rule is: relax....don't take anything here TOO seriously. I'm still working on
that one myself. Everyone here are really good folks.

There is an official set of rules for this site. You can read it by clicking on the FAQ link in the upper black bar and then clicking on the links at the very bottom of that page.

    Welcome aboard!

Well I would like to thank you all for your fast responces.

Ggiese, I think that you may have a point with the two cigars a day, one being one so flavorful that the next one just doesn't do it, but it also happens sometimes on the first cigar of day, sometimes on an empty stomach, sometimes on a full stomach, sometimes after lighting with a torch, sometimes with flame. Thats why I am so baffeled, and looking for the advice on cleansing my palate. Maybe a nice flavorful drink to wake up my taste buds or even going as far as to brush my teeth before hand to make sure whatever flavors were left over from the I had meal before hand were totally gone. Have you tried any of these methods? Now that I think about it, some of the times I have been unable to taste the cigar my mouth has really dry before hand. That type of dry that not even water will take care of. Going crazy

I learned along time ago to only smoke when I am "really in the mood" and have the time to enjoy. So I totally agree with that piece of sound advice and think that it should be passed on to anyone who just starting out in this world of ours and even to those who have been having "a lack of enjoyment" as one of my friends would put it. To me good Cigars are sorta like a form of meditation, I would even say possibly a regilous experiance. I can't count how many times I've been having "one of those days" and all it took was a Series D and an hour and a half to relax and enjoy it, and the day got turned around.

    MMAB,
    Rule 1: no problem.
Rule 2: You got me curious as to what that is all about.
Rule 3: You want the ones where I'm covered in cheese slices or tea bagging the family pets?
Rule 4: ......I need advice on choosing a trustworhty site maybe I'll get an anynomous e-mail with some friendly advice.
Rule 5: There are wolves on this site? People flame here? ok thanks for the warning i'll be careful.
Rule 6 : SFG? Again I am curious, not to open up a can of worms but it sounds like an interesting story.
    Rule 7: Noted
Rule 8: "Everyone here are really good folks" Thats why I joined this board.

    Thanks all.

    Default Jeez!

I forgot to touch on the subject of your cigar smoking.

Be sure to hydrate yourself properly. Drink WATER and yes the typical eight glasses a day bit too. If you become the least bit dehydrated, it will throw off your taste perceptions. Even though you may not feel thirsty, you can be dehydrated. Coffee, tea, sodas, etc DO NOT COUNT. You must take in water. I mean don't make yourself sick. Just be sure to drink enough! Drink water when you smoke too.

Brush with a baking soda toothpaste. It helps rid your mouth of nasty acids that are produced by tobacco. "Cigar mouth" can ruin the taste of your cigars.

Don't eat foods that are screaming hot. Eat foods at a comfortable temperature. If you scald your mouth it will affect your taste perceptions.

Vitamin C Vitamin C VITAMIN C!!! (with bioflavinoids) - Vitamin B complex - I know, your beginning to wonder about MY sanity. But it's true. Tobacco in reality is a nasty toxin. Nicotine radically depletes your body of key vitamins, especially C. If you are deficient, you will have lots of nasty things in your body chemistry (saliva, tissues, etc) and they can affect your taste.

Relax. Stress affects how your cigar tastes. Also, as you have said, smoke when you really want one, not just because you can.

Proper cigar storage. Too high of an rh% will make a great cigar taste acrid, flat, boring. Too low will make it harsh. 65 to 68% in my opinion is ideal for most. Your cigar will burn better and therefore taste better.
