Thread: Cuban Monte #2 vs. #4

  1. #1

Default Cuban Monte #2 vs. #4

Are they exactly the same in terms of taste? Or does size affect the taste of the cigar? Is there a general rule on such things?

I know one thing, the #2 is a great cigar. Capped my night yesterday.

Taste is altered due to things like amount of filler/binder versus wrapper. A lower ring gauge will mean you taste the wrapper more then the filler/binder. The ring gauge and length will also affect the temperature of the smoke when it hits your lips. All these things can dramatically change the taste of one smoke versus another, even if the same types of tobacco are used.

Generally speaking the cooler the smoke the better, ie: longer lengths and ring gauges may be preferred. Or just taking time in between puffs to allow the cigar to cool

While the #4 is great, I prefer the smoother and somewhat stronger, (depends on who you talk to) #2.

The #2 is definately a more complex smoke than the #4 which personally I find a bit bland and one dimensional. #2 is also smoother and more refined.

I'd consider looking at a couple of the other numbers... 1,3,5 - Both the Monte 2 and Monte 4 are widely recognized cigars. That's good but the downfall is they are of heavy demand which means large volumes are produced irregardless of if tobacco that would normally meet the standard is available.

In poor production years these cigars can become suspect because there is a push to meet demand even if the raw material is not available.
