Thread: Cigar Value

  1. Default Cigar Value

I was currently at a cigar tasting session here in Kansas City for some new Cullman Series cigars. They had a raffle for some Pre-Castro Monte Cristo Cubans from early 1959. I was the lucky first to win one, and being only 20 years old got some bad looks from the onlookers. I was wondering what a cigar of that nature would be worth? The box it came from was completely unopened and the cigars are in mint condition. A man offered me a great deal of money, but me and my father were unsure, so we turned him down. I was just wondering, since I am "new" to the cigar world what the value on a cigar like this is worth. Thank you very much for your comments. I might add that this cigar is authentic and it does include the original tax stamp on it.

So, when you do find out the true value, are going to consider selling them? or what?

It was only one cigar, sorry for the misunderstanding, and yes I will probably end up selling it, although I cannot sell it on ebay for legal reasons.

One of the shop here sells Pre-Embargo Cigars. Depending on what brand it is, it might not be as high as you may think.

BTW, since you said you are new to the Cigar world. I hope you are keeping that smokie in a Humidor. If not, it'll dry out and then be worth nothing.

It is in a humidor, and is completely safe. I have no photos at the current time, since I just received it last Thursday, and am at school, but I can.

I might ad that the cigars were owned by Edgar Cullman, who bought a shipment of them in 1961 from Cuba, and has held them ever since. At the tasting session, he was there, along with his son Edgar Jr., and his son David Danziger, who was the one who handed me the cigar itself.

If I was you I would of taken the original offer, as that is probably the best one you are going to get. Anyone else will question it's authenticity for one, and also may not know exactly how well it was stored in the mean time etc.... What did he offer you? I have seen pre embargo Davidoff's going for almost $1000 (can).

I agree, the first offer you got was probably the best. Did he give you contact information? On the other hand, if you like cigars and plan on continuing to smoke them, why not save it for a special treat? Opportunities like this don't come along often in life. Since it does not have the box, it's authenticity will probably never be believed outside the event you won it at. Do you have the cigars measurements? Find a nice little cedar cigar coffin from another cigar the same size. Tuck it away nice and safe until there's a special occasion, and you feel you can truly appreciate it. Perhaps your graduation, or wedding, or the birth of your first child. Make it part of an informal ceremony of some sort. Relish the decadence!

By now the cigar is as bland as a macanudo, maybe even more so. Take that first offer. It would be cool to celebrate with at some point in life, but since there won't be any flavor, it'll just be to say I did it. Don't get me wrong that has sentimental value, but you'd be better off selling it to that first guy and then re-investing the money (and I don't mean in a stupid way like pimping out your japanese import).

if these cigars are from edgar's collection, you can be sure that they are what he says...that theyve been well taken care of,and that they're very smokeable....and worth quite a bit of money.
i'll try to reach an expert today (mcgoospot) or perhaps the master can chime in.....

    you lucked out!!!...

I will start the bidding at $100 . . . ooops wrong thread

I have to admit my initial thought about this guys post was that he was some troll trying to sell a fake cigar. I would also probably sell the smokes too unless you plan on keeping it and never smoking it. I have heard, and it is repeated above, that cigars that old have lost all their essential oils and such even when kept in optimum conditions.

    Cool win though.

Why does it matter what it is worth. If I had it I would wait until a special time....like graduation and smoke it then, then it will be worth the memory...and you can keep it forever.

Thanks a bunch, man. A guy in the shop that really knew cigars told us that it could easily bring upwards of $200, and you just reaffirmed that.

Also, I believe the size of the cigar is somewhere around a 45-47 and is about 6" long.

I say pick a nice evening when you won't get bothered. Pour a nice glass of your favorite beverage and sit back and enjoy it. You will probably never get another from that guy so relax and enjoy. If you sell it some day you will look back, realize you blew the money on crap and wished you had experienced it for yourself.
