Here's what I think:
I think when a few of the FOGs that are here first came, they stirred up a lot of shit with asshats that were current members. They explained to us that sometimes shit needs to be stirred and its best to let things play out on its own. these FOGs flamed members that they followed here from other boards in all threads they posted in. the politics forum was created to keep flame wars in. now, when big headed newbs come and stir up shit, those threads get moved to the politics forum where many engage in these flame wars. the newb manages to piss off a bunch of people, then he is quickly banned. things are no longer alloud to play out on their own. i think the asshats should be alloud to stay as long as the flaming is kept in the right place. and if someone has a problem with that person, feed him his ass. make them not want to be here anymore.

How about you quote that beating he took? Seems to me he popped off in a thread in politics and opened himself to debate. Which happened and remained rather civil, considering the usual debate tactics your buddy uses through over 1300 posts between CR and HP (where he was temp banned at least twice). By the way, out of those 1300+ posts no more than 30 actually had anything to do with cigars. Funny that...

Well, see, that's the thing. The drum that has been beaten here for quite a while now has been reputation travels. What happens on others board does matter. Whether you are a liar, a thief, or just a miserable bastard that exists only to attack others. Many here, myself included, have been banned from other forums for brow beating the admins and members over shitheads like puro and scotty. Hell, we killed thecigarforum.com to get the guy to toss scotty and some guy from stogie chat.
That drum just gets real quiet when it's someone's friend or something like that.

When I signed up over here, I started participating in a civil political discussion. I was asked to back off. I must have been too rough on someone. I don't need, nor have I ever had, the "numbers" to back me up. I can handle myself just fine. Always have, always will.

Sid, I didn't beat the guy up. I did what we do to all members who become members just to post some for sale thread (and usually do it in the wrong area or multiple areas), and really intend to take there money and run. You participated quite willingly in playing with that British guy who was trying to sell stuff. I laid down what the guy didn't want to hear, he wanted a quick buck, got called on it and got mad. It took him a while to change his tune from, "I'm just trying to sell some guys who know about cigars, I don't need this..." to, "I want to be a part of your board and contribute."
I smelled his BS, and if you look at the time and date stamps, nobody other than Basil and I engaged this guy for pretty much the first couple days. So, there was no ganging up, just a simple, we don't want people who come to sell, make a buck, and leave. Those are the people who a true newb could unsuspectingly engage in a sale with and get screwed.
And yes, you do belong here, you're just as stubborn as the rest of us ;-)

If you didn't see this side of my personality before, you weren't looking. There are some things/topics that I get fired up about. I rarely start the shit, but will fling it back at will, and in large quantities, when provoked.
What I have a problem with here, as well as hp, is when a poster gets into a good discussion, and is asked to back off, when the other posters are allowed to continue unrestrained. That is the bullshit. If you want to be like hp, go right ahead.

It is not news that I prefer self moderated smash mouth boards. I have a home here and another board that take that approach.
Boards of this nature do have the potential of running off people that might be positive contributors...But a vast majority of people realize if they are not shills and pass the thick skin test things will work out.
People have come here, pissed in the Wheaties, taken a little verbal hazing, and became good members. Shills and AssHats have departed rather quickly.
We have a good group of people here. SDMV if you want to stay by all means do. You're gonna take some heat...Hell we all take some heat here from time to time. If you don't like the atmosphere here than do what you must.
