My guess is that the amount of time the burned stick was in there is not enough to overcome the cedar if you sand off the surface of it a little. It is a common practice to hit cedar chests and cedar closets with sandpaper to bring out the scent after it has weakened over time. I can't imagine that the cigar's odor would penetrate deeply enough just overnight to ruin an entire cedar panel.
