Default Ashton Cabinet series VSG Review

Ashton reps were here in town at my local shop today and I decided to have a look see. Never smoked an ashton befor so I was a little excited. Here is my review:

    Size: Longsdale 6 1/2 x 42
    Price: $8.50
    Lighter: Double torch
    Cut: Double gilotine

    Apperance:
They have the same look as an Opus in the sence that they look rough. Not a real ritch color and not too light. I am usualy a sucker for a Maduto wrapper but this kind of jumped out at me.

    Wrapper:
Very good construction. Very firm and just a toutch glossy.

    Burn:
    Burned very even and consistant.

    Ash:
Light grey and heald together very nicely. Good solid ash with a clean break in the ashtrey every time.

    Flavor:
At first it lit up like an JdNA. Very spicy but not harsh. Had a good kick that you had to be ready for. Full body and the taste was very complex. There was a lot going on with the taste at first but smoothed out as you went along. Once I was half way through a slight nut taste came about and lingered for the rest of the smoke. This was the hilight of the cigar. Toward the final third it mellowed out and became very creamy but still had the distiguished power of a good full bodied cigar.

    Smoke/Draw:
Not the best draw but still good. Easy to puff but not too easy. There was a suprisingly large amount of rich creamy smoke with every draw. I'm a sucker for a lot of volume so this was a definet plus.

    Over all:
Great stick but not for the light at heart. I had to sit down half way through and the feeling of a melow day has set in now. It is a very complex smoke that had a lot of lavor, volume and a good draw. I would rate this at a 94.

Default If you like the Ashton VSG line try......

Arturo Fuente Double Chateau's with the sungrown wrapper.

I know that at one time Fuente owned half of Ashton but I don't believe they do any longer, but still do blending for them.

I'm a big lover of sungrown wrappers.

Also, if you can get them, try the new Rocky Patel sungrown stuff too. I'm smoking a RP Sungrown Churchill right now and they're grrrrrrrreat!

no one else seems to really care if there are spelling mistakes in people's post. you've already pointed out that he's not a strong speller. there's no need in doing it again except just to piss someone off. ya know what: i don't use the shift key. i type in all caps at work so its become a habit i can't seem to break. you should comment on that every time i post if it makes you feel like more of man. i come here to discuss cigars and other things and have friendly conversation. not to read this immature, unnecessary childishness.

can't we all just get along?

Hey Coventrycat, you seem to have a lot to offer here, and I feel like it will be great to have you as a member of this group, but not if your main objective is to hang around and use the boards to get back at members who have wronged you in some way.

Just my opinion, but I think your point has been made, get off Carlos' back, and let's stay civil here. so far the one thread you have been heavily involved in has been closed....not a good record so far.

If you have a beef with someone take it to PM or email. We should RESPECT everyone here.

As I said, just my opinion, and I don't mean any disrespect, I just enjoy keeping things cool here.

I have not teamed up with anyone....us botl have to stick together if that is what you mean. I alone did not put you on that list bro...that is not a easy list to get put on. That my friend is the effort of several people you have traded and sold fake Cohiba to.

No attacks, just the facts. You see, the internet is not so big that you can just jump around from forum to forum screwing people and that list, although maybe not important here, is important at most of the forums.

I warned you that your days of trading fake Cohiba are over, but you would not listen to reason.

Back to the topic, nice review. Spelling problems or nat! lol

I have no idea who "Dave" is, your paranoia is getting the best of you. No one is "screwing" you, you're doing a fine job of that all by yourself by passing off fake Cohibas.

And no, I am not MoheganSon, you Island of the Misfit Toys boys gossip way too much among yourselves. You'd be wise to not listed to idiots like SFG75 and PuroMooch.

Well sir, if you were the object of Oblik's past misdeeds and the subject of his personal attacks you'd feel just as I do.

Oblik is the one who thinks he's a "know it all" On the Island of the Misfit Toys (LetsTalkCigars), he started abusing a friend on mine who noticed too that Oblik cannot spell to save his life. Oblik with his immature and abusive attitude told my friend "he could run circles around......" him in "real subjects" like math because Oblik supposedly is some kind of engineer. My friend told Oblik that he doubted that very much since he was an engineer with 20 years of experience in his line of work.

You can keep your "respect" Speaking of which, did you parents ever teach your respect or manners? My guess is no...... This is a huge problem with kids your age these days.

    Interesting response, Oblik...

You are trading fake cigars, according to a number of independent sources, and you think people are "joining forces" to gang up on you. I don't believe CoventyCat86 has any connection to Dave, that I know of. And I don't know Dave. I do know and trust CoventryCat86's opinions. So, I suppose there are some connections, but certainly not the conspiracy you believe it to be.

From what I'm hearing from respected members of the cigar board communities (much more than just the three of us), I should be skeptical of any trades I do with you. I will heed their warning, unless you can show documented proof your stuff is legit... Of course, it doesn't much matter, does it Carlos. You probably don't want to trade with me anyway. You don't know me, and I might send you fakes.

Lashing out against others, rather than addressing the root of the problem is no way to settle the dispute. Certainly, if you present facts to the well-respected person who put the bad trader list together, your name would be removed. BTW- as far as I know, none of the three of us are in any way associated with the author of the bad trader list, so you can squelch that conspiracy theory as well.

The reason you made the list is very simple. The person who put that list together only adds names if there is proof and documentation. He's respected because he's fair. You, on the other had, choose to lash out at others as ganging up on you and ignore the truth. So now the great banning begins???

I worry about my reputation all the time. I guard it by being honest and fair. I don't believe you will hear anyone down my trade reputation. I believe trust is built through solid respectful relationships. Once trust is lost, it is difficult if not impossible to regain. That's why I conduct myself in a way that establishes and values the relationships I develop.

Think about your reputation, Oblik. It will follow you everywhere!!!

I would love to speak to the person who put the list together if someone was so kind to give me the info on how to get a hold of them.

Also out of all the supposed accusations that have been made, Dave is the only one to ever come forward.

I did try to make things right with him through email but he has chosen to do this instead. My comments:

    1. Sent him an Espledido and a CoRo for Christmas. He loved them and posted on another board how they were the best Cubans he had ever smoked.
    2. Through a trade we traded 5 domestic and 2 ISOMs. I sent him the same 2 sticks that I sent him for Christmas, out of the same boxes.
    3. 3 months later I receive an email accusing me of sending him fakes. I argued with him over about 3 emails and finally decided to make a truce. I would send him one of his ISOMs back(the other was smoked already) and one of the same value of the other ISOM he sent. This was his idea. As a "friendly gesture" I was going to include a pack of sticks to apologize for what he thought was a bad trade. All I asked in return was for the 2 sticks in question to be returned to me.
    4. What you see now is his response.

As far as the joining forces thing. I know who Mr. cat is and we have a history ourselves(not over trades BTW). That response was directed at him and him alone. This is the only trade that has EVER yielded a response like this. IF there are others I would love for Dave to show me. My trades have always been fair and in this case I was willing to make Dave happy.

As you can see the two of them have done nothing but slander me for the whole day and a half they have been here.

So tell me, how do you know me from LTC? Did I trade with you? No...SFG and "PuroMooch" are terms that only a select few used at LTC.

    LM,

CoventryCat has a TON to offer (not just spelling lessons ). If you knew him, you'd know him to be a very knowledgeable cigar smoker. He has opinions, as do we all. He's also who you want on a board so that a question can be answered knowledgeably. And I don't believe, as far as I know, Oblik has wronged CoventryCat in any way - as a matter of fact, from the posts I see it seems Oblik feels wronged by CoventryCat, Mogheson and Dave.

Others, aside from CoventryCat, have offered opinions that have offended Carlos and a thread was locked. No further discussion on the subject... Why? If there was nothing to the information presented, wouldn't it just die? Instead, repressing the comments only leads to it spilling into other threads (such as what's going on here).

So lets be civil and go to PM. Sure - that'll put a nice face on the problem. But does it resolve the problem? I'd venture to say in most cases it will... But, then again, the whole bad trader list resulted from trades gone south, e-mails and PM's being sent - and the issue not being resolved - REPEATEDLY. I sincerely hope anyone who thinks about screwing someone over on a trade, on purpose or not, will think twice because there are those like CoventryCat and Dave, and others like them out there who are looking out for the community!!!

I hope I'm not offending anyone with my posts - it's not intended to be that way.

This IS their resolution. Private conversation has failed over the last 3 days with Dave.

BTW...the locking of the thread was an attempt to keep it private between the 2 of us. Our admin has locked the other thread.

And for the record, I don't spell that well, never have. I type fast and love the spell check. I don't really care.

    Here's more slander, Oblik...

    WOW..
I JUST GOT DEJAVU SEEING THOSE PICS.

I was on another board a while back. It was our very first box pass. In the pass this same guy put in an esplendido. When I received the pass I really wanted to grab this cigar..but upon further inspection it was a suspect cigar.

Being the botl that I am i replcaed the esplendido with a premium stick. I did not want any other guys who were less familiar with habanos and COhibas to end up getting burned.

I inspected the cigar and noticed that the color was off..the usual Cohiba smell was not there and that the triple cap was not clean or very evident..also the cigar was very rough looking. ALso the band was very bad looking.

I posted my initial thoughts and pic up on another board and the concencus from most member was that it was 100% fake. I figured I would give him the benefit of doubt so I put the COhiba away for a while..so as to let it recover from travel. Well one day i reached into the HUMI and lit this up.. It was the most horrific Cohiba experience I had ever experienced.. it burned hot..burned uneven..smoke was noxious...and it tasted like crap.. not even close to a COhiba..

I pm'd this guy and asked him to make sure his CANADIAN source was reliable he assured me it was.. SO I left it alone. If he was 100% sure he was getting real habanos than there was no sense arguing.

At first I felt bad for him ..because I thought he was buying fake cigars and did not realize this due to his lack of smoking habanos..but after reading this thread and reading the other thread he so eagerly locked..leads me to beleive this guy knowingly thries to pass off fakes as legitimate cigars in order to obtain real or premium cigars..

This is not good.. In the future I know i would never trade or join any pass he is in..

Dave I hope you and him work something out..ALso if you want I can e-mail you the pics I took of my fake..alongside my cigars..

Just because someone is a moderator or a good guy on other boards does not mean they are 100% stand up guys!!

Shortly after that was pointed out, the author of that post was booted off the board. Lost his Mod status and locked out. Was it because he DARED to point out the Cohiba's were fake? You can answer that, Oblik - because I don't know that anyone ever told Alex why he was banned.

The ironic part of that story it - he was ridiculed by others who saw the trade. Members of other boards were wondering what Alex was doing. Alex' reputation was on the line. Alex wanted to help Oblik out and check out the cigar as a friendly gesture. And he's repaid with banishment?
