I think that the "Politics" forum should be removed and the discussion of politics on this BB should be banned....

To me, this seems like an interesting idea to pursue. I like the idea of closing it, but hate the fact that we would not be able to discuss "current events"(Don't know if that could be a thread without the same result as "Politics").

I have been a member here since SDVM joined, he was welcomed with open arms; and quite a few people have used his services/advice regarding animals...as well as cigars. I may not post much, but I do read quite a bit. (I mostly don't post because of where and what I am doing). BPP has written and been in many threads/posts that are important to this site, and I for one, enjoy the knowledge that he brings. And I have seen CNB around.

I have never talked (PM) or really posted a response to any of these guys, I don't choose sides on this political discussion or defend/owe allegiance to anyone, but I do think this site would suffer from any of them leaving.

Ultimately "Politics" is causing this rift, so I would rather see that go than see a ban pole for members. If for whatever reason that does not work, than the board should go from there.

By the way, I rarely even read the politics thread because it appears to only cause trouble. But that by no means is an indication of my interest in politics, just that I am here for cigars, and have no interest in debating my political beliefs...

I, like many of the guys on here, try to stay out of the politics section. But I think Hex's original intentions with the Politics forum was to air board politics, such as banning, problems with trades, etc, not "which party houses the biggest assholes."

That being said, I don't think the politics forum should be removed, I just think it should be used in the manner in which it was originally intended.

I also don't think threads should be locked or deleted, and I feel that no moderator should be elected to sort these things out. This board is member moderated and I think that is one of the (many) great things about it. Nobody has to worry about where a moderator's allegiances lie.

The "politics" forum stays. It has a rich history on this board... You would have had to be here when it was set up to get the full flavor. I, for one, very much appreciate Hex setting it up in the beginning.

This forum is really not about discussing politics (republicans vs. democrats), but more about a place where we can go and have a ball smacking each other around if we like. You can pretty much say and do what you please in here. I won't say that it's a good idea to be an ass - but you can say and do what you please.

If you don't like what's being said in the politics thread - avoid it. If you don't like being told you're an ass - avoid the politics thread. If you want to call someone an ass - go to the politics thread.

Sid - take it easy. You don't need to get so worked about about this, it's a just a freakin' political debate. Like you haven't heard worse...

Barry - if you wanna wave your ass, be an ass or call someone an ass in public. this is the place for it - just don't expect others to respect your position, especially when you start demeaning and degrading others about their opinions. You really aren't a bad guy, but your debate style is, well, "interesting".

Baka - If you haven't noticed, Barry likes to demean and degrade those that are not democrats or share his political view - it's VERY clear it's his debate style - get used to it or don't debate him on political issues. But don't get pissed when he challenges you in this thread.

To the others - this is the place Kevin REALLY likes to go when he stubs his toes, or whacks his thumb with a hammer. If you can't handle the way he talks, it would be a good idea to avoid this thread...

Great points George. I'm with you on this one. If people want to debate politics and have pissing matches fine. But, if no one is actually saying anything racist, sexist, or culturally demeaning, then once you've agreed to a pissin' match, there's no point in getting mad.

It still is of course. My point here is that we've got a pissing match over issues that are not related to cheating trades or pass confiscatings. This isn't an issue of bad cigar ettiquette. It's a matter of who thinks their penis is larger. And by all means, do that all day long, enjoy looking at each other's peni. Just remember, neither of the parties here started as trolls at all. They're respectable members who'd never cheat anybody and are generous cigar folkal. They're trolling each other, but it's not like they're newbs trolling just to be ass-hats. So, by all means, play your king of the mountain. But, don't take it too seriously.
