Agreed. Barry seems to take political things over the top all the time, and his avatar is insulting. I wish he would tone things down and be able to state his political views in a respectful manner. I'm not saying you can't fly off the handle once in a while, we all lose control sometimes, but to do so constantly is over the top.

Um... In case you haven't noticed, Barry has toned it down quite a bit, as have you (which I appreciate.) How long do you want to keep this thing going?

Yes, I have, but the jury is still out on Barry. Comments like his don't create discussion, they create animosity, which leads to hatred. Take a look at the nature of this board since he came on, and tell me if it is a better place where we love to talk about cigars, or has it caused a major hate-fest to start with lots of hatred going back and forth, causing several members who have been on for over a year (Bill, Ken George and myself) to state that his posts are making this board less enjoyable, not more?

In a CS poll, the projected winner is... SMOKINDVM! With most of the votes in from all precincts, SDVM is in the lead with an astounding 84.2%

Can we all play nice and get along now?

Or should I just close the politics forum until November 8th and make a rule that says that any person that talks politics between now and then or says "I told you so" after the fact gets insta banned??

So now let me get this straight, it's still OK to post political content in the political forum, as long as others don't have a differing opinion, and express it on that thread, right?

As long as it's not controversial, I can post it?

  14. Thumbs up

That's a great idea Hex, that is closing the political forum until after the eigth. I've read great info from all that have posted here. This being my favorite cigar site tells me much that. What I have read is appreciated. Keep up the good work.

No - I believe Hex was saying that it may come down to closing the thread to preserve the peace. It means he's asking us to tone it down, or he'll shut it down...

C'mon, though... The message is clear, even though the ban poll is clearly against banning Barry... People don't want to hear the nonsense - so quite trying to burn down the house with the nastiness. It's not accomplishing anything...

Well a couple of things, hex started the "political" forum not for what you think but for this:

CLICK HERE in case you missed it. Here's the main part that I'm thinking of:

    7. The often internally conflicting interrelationships among people in a society.

Although this forum was created for any political conversation. #7 is the reason this board was set up. If you don't want to be a part of these discussions, don't read these threads.
Now, this was primarily set up for the Scroto and Oblik situations (which was long before you got here) and NOT necessarily for people to sling the political BS which let's face it Barry, is what you spent a majority of your time doing here when you first arrived. If I remember correctly, you got into some major dust ups with a few members (not me) like CigarNoBaka and maybe one or two others with your, (now please don't get mad at me) hate filled, insulting and nasty posts. I stayed out of it because I thought very highly of you when you first came here because you and I had loads of fun chasing those two douchebags (romilayu and stony dell) off of CigarRebellion. Yes, I noticed that romi was a conservative but his due to his lying, cheating, stealing and overall scumbaggery, I applauded when you roasted those two SOBs on a regular basis usually with a political angle, it was funny as hell and they so deserved it regardless of their political leanings. I can't think of anything more fun that teaming up with an extreme left wing liberal and chasing asshats off of a cigar board!

So when you came here, I basically ignored your rhetoric even though it was clear that others were finding you to be offensive. And yes Barry, I received PMs from three or four others when you first got here wondering why I wasn't mixing it up with you and as I mentioned, you were a "hero" in my eyes because of the way you handled romi and stony on CR.

A couple of people grumbled in the background about you and you toned it down which I thought was great.

However, now that it's election season, you've taken your rhetoric and nastiness to levels I've never seen from you as long as I've known you. Your constant namecalling and vulgar language is offensive. Yep, you have a right to your opinion but when you claim that all Republicans are protectors of child molesters, you've gone too far and yes, that's an attack even if you don't want to admit it.

It's okay to have differing opinions, no one has ever said that's against any rules but let's face it, when someone HAS an opinion that differs from yours, you go overboard and the bile and crap that you spew is completely uncalled for.

    As Kevin7 pointed out:
I have my opinions and beliefs and nobody can change them
which I think sums up how almost all people here feel about their political opinions.

You seem to be on a mission to change people's opinions and beliefs with your posts and actions here. Now if this were a poltical debate board, fan freakintastic, go for it Barry, but it's not, it's a CIGAR BOARD comprised of members almost all of whom share Kevin's philosophy regarding their opinions and beliefs and you're not going to change them, no matter how "right" you think you are.

Now call me whatever you want but I do take offense when guys like you and Sid post things just to enrage people against Republicans or conservatives because once again, why bother? You're not going to change my mind or anyone elses around here and all you'll wind up doing is pissing people off. A prime example is Sid's post implying that the Republicans and Democrats were engaging in a smear campaign against poor ole Kinky Friedman. On the face of it, I'd be infuriated too if it were true that is BUT as it turned out, Sid's "source" was Kinky Friedman's website. That's just plain misleading and offensive and when exception is taken to actions like that by you and Sid, you guys pull a "Scotty" and ignore, change the subject, attack, etc.

So post your political crap all you want but when someone takes issue with your statements it might be nice if you'd refrain from attacks and yes, attacks on their party, group, religion or whatever.

Mixing it up and busting each other's stones is fun but that's generally not what you do.....

After all, it's what they get paid to do. Political stances are nothing more than 30 second snippets, venomous opinions by "journalists" and 2 minute "news" stories. I have seen more political ads this mid term than I can ever remember... the vast majority of them being just plain ugly. No one talks about themselves, they just cut down their opponents. Then in the last 5 seconds it's "I won't do that... vote for me!" It's all horse shit. And it seems they serve no useful purpose other than to get people so heated up about one candidate that they vote for the opponent.

Does anyone actually believe that any of these vultures are their saviors?? Let's quit beating up people that we consider friends in the name of these assholes, dumb shits and fucktards. They all lie, they all spin the truth, and none of them are in it because of some overriding desire to save the world. They are highly paid placeholders who can do nothing but what they are told to do by their political party. And the only thing I "hate" is when you guys go for blood to defend these fucking so called heros.

So step back and take a look at what the pros are doing to us. The vote is one of the only voices offered to the general populace in this country. Once the vote is over, the direction of the country is in the hands of those we vote into office and those who pull their strings... and we can't do anything about it until the next election. The fear of losing your vote in the next election is the only thing that keeps these assholes in check. That's how the system was designed and that's how it works. So get the facts, interpret them in your own way as best you can, understand what the party stands for and go vote your own conscience. That's how we are heard in our political system, not by friends shouting insults at each other on an internet web site.

And for God sake... get it into your head that there are lots of great people out there who are going to see it differently!
You can't be serious with this post are you? Let's look at each statement spearately:

Politics is a profession, nothing more.
    Absolutely wrong.
Politicians and their machines are getting to the level of used car salesmen.
    Huh?
No one gets to higher office because of their overriding desire to do good.
Now you're just plain being stupid....
They get there because of their perceived ability by their party fat cats to get votes.
    Another ridiculous statement.
Political spinners and talking heads are getting everyone all heated up for no one but their own benefit. After all, it's what they get paid to do.
Once again, a completely false statement.
Political stances are nothing more than 30 second snippets, venomous opinions by "journalists" and 2 minute "news" stories.
This one is completely absurd, now you're starting to make me laugh!
I have seen more political ads this mid term than I can ever remember...
That's probably because you live in an area with competitive races which is expected. People who live in areas where there are no competitive contests are seeing far less than they evr have.
the vast majority of them being just plain ugly.
Well, there's a reason for that and if you'd like me to explain it, I will. In short, while people howl and whine about "negative campaigning," studies have proven it works, it's kind of like why they build casinos all over the world. The key is it should be done by taking issue with a candidates voting record or platform and not with personal attacks.
No one talks about themselves, they just cut down their opponents.
Once again, completely FALSE, "no one" huh? C'mon, you're grossly exaggerating, don't you think?
    It's all horse shit.
No it's not, the candidates are paying to get their message out. If you were the least bit honest with yourself, you'd admit you've learned something from some of the political advertising you've been exposed to over the years.

I dunno Shelby, you come across as not being grounded in reality with this post.
