Agreed. If it had gone the other way Bill wouldn't be going on and on about it.

    Know why?

    There wasn't a bet.

You really want to know why he wouldn't be going on about it?

Because I would have paid up.

Now george, you know all about me, you've said so in many other posts.

Anyone want to explain to me why hugh here gets to use an animated avatar showing a simulated sex act between 2 stuffed dolls? Wasn't that sort of thing frowned upon, and a couple of members told to change theirs, just a little while back?
Someone as virtuous as george claims to be, shouldn't be displaying such crap.

There ya go again "assuming", Barry - are you absolutely SURE I'm Hugh?

(BTW - I'll give you a free clue - Hugh was here way before you and Sid were here... You gotta buy any additional clues in the future... )

Well, I'm no FOG, but, SDVM is a guy who is of above-average intelligence, generous with his DVM knowledge, frequently trolls, and of course, smokes cigars.

Regarding his IQ though, he is often too clever by half. Regarding his generosity and trolling, the former is probably one of the reasons the latter has been tolerated for so damn long. I myself have been the recipient of this generosity, and find that I struggle between gratitude and personal integrity when it comes to Barry. I'm afraid that as long as I don't speculate about his motives, which are none of my business, I'll continue to struggle.

He is a self-acclaimed atheist, mistakenly thinking he is somehow "without religion". He's about as fundamentalist as anyone I've heard in awhile.

He's pretty damn current on politics though, and would have something to say about viable liberal positions, but his messages get lost in malicious vileness.

BPP supports him unconditionally. Which is a fucking mystery to me. And since BPP is like a cigar encyclopedia (actually, he's more like a cigar search engine), and since he's in the habit of leghumping newbies who agree with or admire him (in a grandfatherly kind of way), then SDVM enjoys some asylum (in a parasitic kind of way).

There's recently been some heated exchanges mainly with these two on one side, and George and CC on the other, with most of the regulars remaining neutral. My respect for the two in the instant though has begun to crack.

Religion is a crutch the weak use to protect themselves from having to take responsibility for their actions and lives.
"Atheism is religion." When you hear a statement like this, it often comes form a person who has actually done little research or thinking about either Atheism or religion. Most people rarely study or investigate their own religious beliefs, assuming they have any. If they are born in a predominately Christian, or Muslim, or Hindu, or Jewish culture, they will probably reflect the religious beliefs of that society.

Nearly every dictionary will define religion as "belief in a divine or superhuman power or powers to be obeyed a worshipped as the creator(s) and ruler(s) of the universe. The definition of all other terms linked to religion employ much the same language -- church, monastery, priest. They are all part of a religious-language universe or "game" that has little to do with Atheism.

There cannot be an Atheist "Church", or an Atheist "priest" anymore than there could be an Atheist "god."

"Often comes from . . ." being operative. Ok, look atheism is just like religion in that it requires dogmatic definition (as you've conveniently and at least partially provided here), parameters (those of your own awareness, acknowledgement, and importantly, alignment with others), and defense (again, thanks). I mean, atheism, like religion, isn't exactly stand alone now, is it? Like rather, a tree, or a drink of water would be?

At any rate, doesn't it seem ridiculous to expect me to accept as objective an explanation of what atheism is and what it ain't from a site of, for, and about atheists?

That'd be like me telling you that baptism is for real and is your salvation, Barry, because I'm a Baptist and it says so on the fucking Baptist website. Fundamentalist.
