    Default Ceramic Blade Cutter

Anyone have experience using ceramic blade cigar cutters? I know ceramic knives work well in the kitchen, but wondering whether the same applies to cigar cutters.

Would be interested to know your experiences with them and/or any good brands you may have come across.

    Default Cigar Cutters

Since no-one has replyed I thought I'd drop in my .02 just for your consideration. I have a number of cutters and none of them cut perfectly all the time. I agree that if a ceramic was somehow sharper than the others, then it might be better. It seems that the key to a good cut is sharpness rather than design.

I like to use a straight razor. In the old days the cigar smoking barbers used their straight razor. You fold it like if you were going to close it, then position the cigar cap under the blade at just the perfect depth. Slowly roll the cigar as you gently close the blade down on it.
This might sound a little tricky but is very easy and yields perfect results every time. Be sure to use every safety precaution and don't leave it where a child might find it. Don't forget to hone & strop the razor after using it!

I doubt you'll ever see a ceramic blade cigar cutter. Ceramic knives are great for the kitchen because they don't dull nearly as quickly as steel knives, but they are very expensive, and very brittle. It is very easy to break a ceramic knife. It doesn't seem practical to me to use a ceramic blade in something that gets put into pockets and passed around as much as a cutter does.

Don't know anything about it, but there it is.

I say you can't have too many cutters. Pick one up, rollurown, and let us know how it works.

That's amazing. I guess if there's an opening in a market, someone will have a product for it. Definitely let us know how it works out.

Thanks all. Hadn't previously heard about using the straight razor, but it's a good idea--not that I have one lying around.

In terms of the ceramic cutter linked, definitely interested if anyone has experience with it.

I have that exact ceramic cutter. I really wish I could give it a good review, but I can't. The ceramic blade itself is great. However the cutter is not designed very well and it always seems to rip part of the cap. A palio or xikar is a much better choice.

I bought a box of Short Storys last week and my buddy pitched in a free Troya and cutter. The Troya was crap but the cutter is awesome. It's a double guillotine made by "Craftmasters Bench". This is the best cutter I now have. It is super sharp with very thin blades and has large enough finger holes that I can actually get my fingers in. I noticed he was retailing it for $9.50. This thing cuts nearly as well as my straight razor.

Thanks for the tip regarding the cutter.

Can you point to where you can purchase it? Did a quick search and couldn't locate by name.

Ive got a Craftmasters Bench Dbl Guillotine as well. Fantastic inexpensive cutter, my local B&N sells em for about $3 each. Only complaint I have about them, is that they dont last very long, the blades dull very quickly. It lasted me about 4 or 5 months. Althought at $3 I cant complain about that. Still worth every penney for it.

But now Ive got my Xikar, so it dosent see much action any more.
