Uh-oh, I am an asshat for thinking maybe you should PM the guy and let him know there was a better way to do his introduction? Really it is not that hard, give the guy a chance to correct the problem before fragging him. Mentoring is all about tact.

Slkr - you need to back off. This board has a different culture and what Basil said is perfectly acceptable here. What the first poster did, while maybe being ok on some boards, is not acceptable here. If Basil didn't point it out then somebody else would have. Like it or not, there is very little tolerance for those in the business, who come on here and try to use this forum as their own personal billboard.

You can't come here and jump in with both feet. It doesn't work that way. You've got 39 posts and you've already been involved in 2 altercations here. You need to figure out what this community is about before you come in swingin'.

You don't seem to like the fact that Basil jumped all over this guy, but you aren't at all reluctant to jump all over him. You seem to have some suggestions for how he should have handled his reply. Perhaps you should have taken your own advice and laid off the insults in yours. Here's what I mean - It's as clear as can be...

You need to make up your mind... do you want people to be kind and helpful or do you want to come on this board and bitch to the regulars because they bitch too much? It's starting to sound like you want them to act the way you tell them to yet reserve the freedom to act as you like.

The people here are good folks and the board is a good one. You can fight with them (you will not win.. the culture is already established here) try to fit in, back off or just decide this ain't the place for you.

And yes, I do post on another board that you frequent, But just as I do there, I also respect the culture and the people here.

Yes I do have insults in my replies to Basil because that seems to be the only thing he understands. So if you think someone should be a lackey and not pick on him because he is a big "core member" than I would respectfully disagree. A person has to have basic standards of respect to people, not different sets dependant on which site they are on.
