Default My friend is such a n00b !

So me and my buddy, his name is Harrison Ford, come home from a show and decide to enjoy a smoke together. He grabbed a Sancho Panza and I grabbed one of my last Don Kiki's from the humidor. He cut his, then i followed. Right then my girlfriend called and while talking to her I looked up to realize my buddy had lit the wrong end of the cigar. He knows a good bit about cigars, so I made sure I rubbed it in like a good friend. Then we got to talking, does it really make a difference? We couldn't think of any reason that it would. Anyone else?

I always wondered about that too. I mean, lets say you have a uncut cigar and a lighter, but no cutter. It seams like a very good solution would be to lit the head and smoke from the foot, but its never been discussed before(i didn't use the search button so maybe it has been). Unless its a Black and Mild, I cannot really see how it would be any different from that end then the proper end. Unless it was a perfecto or a torp.

PS- its still pretty funny though.

On some lesser cigars it probably doesn't make a difference. But usually quality cigars are designed and rolled to present different attributes as you smoke them. This is done by changing the type of leaves from the foot to the cap. So although your not going to melt or burst in to flames for doing it. You should probably smoke them the right way if you want to get what the experience the manufacturer is looking to deliver.

I would think that you miht have problems with the wrapper. Isn't it rolled so that if you clip too much of the cap you would have a problem as well?

So you are saying quality cigars are "usually" made from short filler?

I don't think so... Some may be, but "usually", quality cigars are made from long filler. Same leaf foot to head.

We had a guy walk into the smoke shop last night who acted like he knew a lot about cigars. Then he lights up a Short Story, cuts the wrong end and lights the wrong end. We grinned at each other but did not bother to point out that he didn't know what the fuck he was doing!!!

My Dad also struggles with the Hemingways and most figurados in general. But the man catches more fish than me most days, so who am I to ridicule him?

I read somewhere that lighting the wrong end would adversely affect the draw and burn because of the direction of the roll, and the taste would be affected because of different characteristics of the different parts of the leaf. But I can't find it again, so I don't know if it was credible. And, of course, the thing's gonna have some serious problems staying together.

The biggest problem with lighting the wrong end is the risk of it unraveling.... There is no glue except on the cap and right around the cap. The same goes for cutting too much off the cap. You run the risk of it unrolling.... That is what I learnt after rolling some cigars in the D.R. at the Aurora cigar factory.

And God help my son if he doesn't bear the same cross.

I had some friends over for a bbq a while back. They saw that I was nubbing one, and I offered some to them. Two of them said, sure we'll smoke one. So I bring out a couple churchills, they look at em and say, uh can you cut one in half? I cringed, and passed them the cutter. Anyway, they enjoyed it, and with 1/2 as much waste, since they each only smoked about an inch.
